Grateful to have spoken at Tuesday's Greater Cleveland Partnership Al Summit, representing Great Lakes Al Institute and N🚫 Alumni.

My encouragement to leaders: let's move beyond Al curiosity and novelty, and toward practical Al fluency, wise leadership, and better outcomes.

This is for everybody, and the smallest organizations genuinely have the most to gain.

There is no silver bullet. Real progress requires a deliberate and reflective process: first understanding the areas of greatest need, then thoughtfully redesigning the work to create truly better outcomes.

Al is not the goal. Better work, better decisions, and better outcomes are the goal.

A meaningful day and an exciting conversation for Northeast Ohio.

Exciting News from Bucyrus Copper Kettle Works! 🛠️✨

We’re thrilled to welcome Cohen Knapp as our Summer 2026 Workforce Ready Intern!

Cohen will be a senior at Colonel Crawford High School and is participating in Pioneers welding program. He’s already hard at work learning the traditional coppersmith trade — from hands-on hammering to the time-honored techniques that have made our copper kettles legendary since 1874.

We are fortunate to have Cohen with us through Crawford Partnership’s Workforce Ready Intern Program, in collaboration with The Community Foundation for Crawford County.

Cohen, thank you for bringing your energy and work ethic to the kettle. We’re excited to watch you grow in this unique craft and contribute to preserving America’s last handcrafted copper kettle business.

Stay tuned for updates on Cohen’s journey this summer!

🧱 What if we’ve been filtering out some of the best future tradespeople before they ever even get a chance?

For years, we standardized tested an entire generation and convinced people that if they weren’t good at sitting still, memorizing information, and regurgitating it on command… they just weren’t “smart enough.”

Then we turn around and ask:
“Why is there a labor shortage?”
“Why can’t we find good people?”
“Why are fewer young people entering the trades?”

Maybe because the front door was designed for a different era.

We’ve been making it significantly more difficult for people to simply even get started.

Was that on purpose or was that ignorance? Who knows?

Some of the greatest mechanics, welders, roofers, operators, builders, technicians, and entrepreneurs we know would NEVER shine in a standardized testing environment.

But give them responsibility.
Give them a problem to solve.
Give them tools.
Give them pressure.
Give them a real-world environment…

And they come alive.

To be clear:
Standards matter.
Training matters.
Safety matters.
Competency matters.

But maybe we need to rethink HOW we measure potential.

Because the current system often rewards one specific type of intelligence while overlooking adaptability, grit, leadership, creativity, communication, emotional intelligence, and real-world problem solving.

The old game said:
“Prove yourself on paper first.”

The new game asks:
“Can you learn? Can you adapt? Can you solve problems? Can you work with people? Can you grow?”

There is a massive need for trade-based employment moving forward, and we cannot keep doing the exact same things expecting different results.

We don’t want to just criticize the system.
We want to collaborate.
Be part of the conversation.
Be part of the solution.

Because there are thousands of capable people slipping through the cracks simply because they do not fit an outdated mold.

Different paths.
Different minds.
Different backgrounds.
Same value.

🧱 The companies that will thrive in the next decade won’t be the ones clinging to “how it’s always been done.” They’ll be the ones willing to rethink, adapt, and invest in people.

Too many organizations are losing talent, momentum, and innovation because they’re operating with outdated models in a rapidly changing world.

🛑 Stop resisting change.
🛑 Stop burning out your people.
🛑 Stop blaming the upcoming workforce.
🛑 Stop stopping your business from evolving.

The future of work demands teams that can communicate, adapt, innovate, and grow together. That means creating cultures where people understand their strengths, work in their genius, and feel empowered to contribute at a higher level.

At N🚫 Alumni, we believe in inspiring tomorrow’s workforce by transforming tradition and upskilling for the future.

Because growth isn’t just personal anymore. It’s organizational.

The businesses willing to evolve today will become the leaders people want to work for tomorrow. 💯

This note right here says a lot about where education needs to be headed.

The OLD game was:
“Be quiet. Listen. Memorize. Repeat it back.”

The NEW game?
Teaching kids how to think for themselves. Teaching them that their voice matters. Teaching them how to communicate, question things, and grow into who they actually are.

What stood out to me most when I stumbled upon it on Facebook, wasn’t a student thanking a teacher for helping them get a better grade…

It was thanking her for allowing them to have an opinion.

That’s both amazing and kinda sad in a way.

Because not every kid learns the same way. Some people absolutely learn by making mistakes, figuring things out the hard way, wrestling with ideas, and discovering answers for themselves.

Sometimes the lesson sticks BECAUSE they got it wrong first.

That’s me in a nutshell.

A bad grade can measure performance on a standardized test, but doesn’t necessarily measure creativity, courage, leadership, curiosity, emotional intelligence, or future potential.

The New Game Old Game conversation is highly applicable to education right now.

Thankful for teachers like my friend (and former Tallmadge classmate) Lori who understand that education is about developing human beings…not just producing students who are good at remembering information.
