So, this morning I noticed a hole in the jeans I planned to wear. Okay, no problem. I have time to patch that. But I also wanted to show you a trick, to see other future holes.
First of all, I want to mention the hole wasn't obvious from the outside, I only noticed it on the inside.
After I patched it, I wondered if there are weakening spots that will become holes soon. Better to reinforce weak spots than patch holes. So, I basically looked into the crotch area of the pants, from the inside, looking for areas where more light is showing through...Sure enough, I have more work to do. That's a bit tricky to catch on camera but I tried.
Now, I have places to be so I'll work on that later.
Happy Friday, all!

Well, here it is. 2026. Like so many, it inspires reflection on the year past and consideration for improvement. For me, I hope to better to manage and separate my business and personal time. It turns out, it's easy for schedules and life to get messy when you run a business out of your home.
Going forward, my business hours will be as follows.

Wow! 2025 is coming to a close and it's going to be a busy final few weeks! At this time, I am afraid I will be unable to take on any new work for the rest of 2025.
If you are looking for alterations, mending or lessons in 2026, I look forward to connecting!
And thank you so, so very much to the clients who have trusted me, have become repeat clients, have sent referrals. Truly, there is no greater compliment than referrals.

I don't do a lot of "from scratch" or "start to finish" projects for other people because....well, lots of reasons. But I did agree to this one. Custom costume for a 5 year old (not modeled because I don't take and retain pictures of children I barely know, let alone share them on the interwbs...) I forgot to take pics of the shoulder epaulet things. Disappointed in myself for that. Anyway, this was fun. And the kiddo was jumping up and down so I think she's happy.

I loved being asked to do this project. Client's daughter was getting married. She brought me this handbag and some lace from her wedding dress. She showed me pictures to give me an idea of her daughter's style and we discussed some options. And then she entrusted me to not screw it up. 😁
Projects like this don't come along often. It was a pleasure to create this piece that joins the legacy of the parents marriage with joyful beginning of their daughter.
My best wishes go out to the newly weds for the joyful days to far, far, far outweigh the hard ones. For laughter and love to fill their lives always.

I try to not judge the work of other seamstresses. I can only assume the seamstress who did this hem the first time, who works in the shop where this dress was sold, is under a lot of pressure to turn projects as quickly as possible. Because they work for someone else, they may sometimes cut corners.
I am glad I took this path, to start my own business and work from my home. I have the power to never send a client home with disappointing work. I never have to sacrifice being proud of my work so I can satisfy someone else's bottom line.

Here's the thing...seamstresses...we are human. And sometimes we make mistakes. But this isn't a mistake, it's just sloppy work...I can't imagine letting this go home with a customer and thinking it's acceptable. Glad I'm able to fix this for my client, I'm not happy she has to have it done twice.

When snip happens, we mend! Boo boos like this aren't repairable in an invisible way. And deliberately visible mending isn't appropriate in all situations. So we try for a subtle, near invisible mend. Sometimes it's just not possible. But i am always happy for a chance to keep things put of a landfill. Glad I was able to save this much loved jumpsuit for my client.
