True North Gear® is a family-owned and operated company founded in 1992 by Alyx Fier. True North® has grown from a one-man operation to an ISO 9001 registered company whose products are distributed worldwide. In addition to packs, bags, and clothing for structure and wildland firefighters under the True North® label, our products include a broad range of fire-resistant and arc-rated clothing under

the DragonWear® label. Though we've grown, our headquarters are still in Seattle, Washington just up the street from the garage where we started. From the beginning, True North's® philosophy has been to provide innovative products at competitive prices supported by a lifetime materials warranty and great customer service. The feedback we have received over the decades has helped make us who we are today. The June fire outlook shows much of the West continuing to ramp up. Above normal fire potential is expected across much of the Four Corners, Great Basin, Inland Northwest, and northern California this month, with elevated conditions also forecast for parts of Wyoming and areas along the Canadian border.

Looking ahead, activity is expected to expand across portions of the Northwest through the summer, while parts of southeast Texas and western Louisiana may see increased potential in July and August.

As always, outlooks can change, but the overall trend is clear: much of the West is heading into a busy summer.

At True North, performance and reliability have always guided the way we build gear for the field. As part of our ongoing product stewardship efforts, our current gear lineup is manufactured without intentionally added PFAS, consistent with current industry direction and evolving expectations.

We’re committed to continuing to build products that crews can depend on, and we appreciate the trust placed in our gear every day.

Please note: select prior-season products available through our Outlet page may contain PFAS chemistry.

As fire activity increases across the country, it’s a good reminder that wildfire behavior is constantly changing based on conditions on the ground.

Fuel, weather, and topography all play a role in how a fire develops and spreads:
– Dry fuels increase intensity
– Wind and weather drive fire movement
– Terrain influences speed and direction

Understanding the fire behavior triangle helps explain why fires can shift so quickly and why conditions matter so much on the fireline.

Learn more:

At the heart of wildfire science are three key elements—fuel, weather, and topography, often called the fire behavior triangle.

Mental health isn’t always easy to talk about, but it matters just as much as taking care of your gear or your crew.

A few reminders heading into summer:
– Check in on your people
– Don’t normalize running on empty
– Rest when you can
– Stay connected outside the fireline
– Ask for support if you need it

And when the assignment ends, give yourself time to reset before jumping straight into the next thing.

Organizations like the Wildland Firefighter Foundation continue to do important work supporting firefighters and their families through the hard moments that come with the job. Take care of your crew. Take care of yourself, too.

As we head into another season, preparedness matters for firefighters and communities. A few simple steps can make a real difference:

🔥 Clear dry brush and debris around your home
🔥 Keep gutters, roofs, and access roads clear
🔥 Create and maintain defensible space
🔥 Have an evacuation plan before you need one
🔥 Stay aware of local fire conditions and restrictions
🔥 Don’t wait until smoke is visible to start preparing

For the fire community, this season means long days ahead. For everyone else, preparedness helps protect communities and the people responding when things go bad.

Wishing everyone a safe season ahead!

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms on the fireline, and the ones waiting at home during the season.

For more than 15 years, supporting the wildland fire community through the Wildland Firefighter Foundation has meant a lot to us as a company. We’re grateful for the work they continue to do for firefighters and their families during some of the hardest moments.

This recognition means a lot, but even more than that, we’re thankful for everything the Foundation continues to do behind the scenes for the fire community.
