I like to look at taking care of our clothing repairs as similar to our health. It can be a pain to remember to stop and take care of the little things but what we procrastinate on always becomes bigger and harder and more expensive.
This coat is a great example. I picked it up ar a garage sale this summer for $3. This morning I noticed the snap was getting loose. Two whacks with the hammer and the special spring snap tool and it’s fixed. I do these quick fixes while you wait and it’s free. Lose half the snap and it’s $3 and up. Because of the way they’re installing snaps during construction I may not be able to install it the same way without desconstructung the coat (more money) or have the same color to match. I replaced one half of the zipper pull a couple of weeks ago. If I have the correct size pull, I can replace them for $5-7.
Fortunately we can buy coats when the repair cost outweighs the purchase of a new coat or when the fabric starts to fail. Replacing our bodies with different parts is harder and more expensive and rehab is more painful and time consuming than routine exercise. Tonight I’ll do my PT exercises and tomorrow Jane and I will reconnect in the morning. What are you doing to make life better today and in the future?
