The Afterglow: Light Through the Wreckage

This piece is a witness to the moment a storm breaks. There are no flowers or vases here—only the weight of the atmosphere. Aggressive, fiery oranges fracture through heavy charcoal greys, creating a visual tug-of-war between light and shadow.

While the top of the canvas feels like an intrusion of heat, the bottom sinks into deep indigos and bruised magentas. It’s a landscape of feeling rather than geography, capturing that heavy, quiet breath taken after a long day.

The Magenta Riot
I wanted to capture a bouquet that has begun to unravel. This piece is an exercise in controlled spontaneity, using the gestural language of abstract expressionism to move past a traditional still life.
I used heavy black lines to anchor the composition, allowing the bruised magentas and violets to bleed into the white space. The thin, electric green tendrils aren’t just stems; they are movement lines, suggesting that the beauty of the bloom is found in its refusal to stay contained.

The Cascade
I traded energy for a rhythmic, vertical descent. This 11x14 mixed media piece on paper acts as a curtain of color, utilizing the raw, gestural language of abstract expressionism. I used short, feathered strokes to create a dense texture that pulls the eye downward, capturing a sense of movement that feels both deliberate and instinctive.
The palette moves from cool to warm—starting with icy blues and teals on the left, blending into deep lavenders, and grounding in earthy ochre and bruised reds on the right. It’s a study in repetitive motion, capturing a sense of graceful, constant falling.
