i pray for a heart like david. to delight in the law and the Lord’s will. my head knows that the Father’s will is better, but my flesh fights it because it thinks it knows better. i pray for all of our hearts to be softened to the truth and that the truth will force out any lies we may believe.

He is still on the throne. He is still in control. He is still ‭our savior and redeemer. as the times change and culture tries to tell us otherwise, the word tells us that He is who He says He is—and that remains unchanged for all of eternity.

our salvation is a precious gift from the Lord and it has nothing to do with us.
our works do not save us.

we cannot earn our salvation, and if we had to work for it, not a single one of us would be saved. we will always fall short of God’s glory. which is why we need His miraculous gift of grace to begin with.

what is truly the driving force of your day? what/who is truly the god of your heart? (notice the little g). we so easily replace our God with idols and we let the rule our hearts, minds, and our days.
•
when you first wake up in the morning—are you drawn to your phone or the word of God? are you drawn to make sure your kids are okay, or are you spending that time in prayer? our hearts are idol factories, and even things that are good, beautiful, and created to glorify God can become the god of our lives.
•
i am a guilty of bowing down to my responsibilities before bowing down to the Father. i am guilty of thinking i can rule my own life and be my own god. i am guilty of so much more, because of deceit in my heart. oh, but what a grace it is to be able to repent of that.
•
Father, i petition You to crush every idol standing in the way of us fully submitting to you. i desire for You to be the first thing we think of in the morning and for You to be the driving force of not only our day, but our entire lives. Father, i want you to be where our thoughts effortlessly flow. we desire to be rooted deeper in you. we want to consider You and Your Son in every facet of our lives. i know we will continually fall short of the perfection we are called to, so Lord, i thank you for giving us the gift of repentance and the gift of grace you pour out on us in every moment we fall short. amen.

today is so very solemn. i feel so heavy knowing the weight of the events that happened twenty years ago. i hate that some of my peers don’t fully understand how big this day is. i hate the evil that seemingly triumphed on september 11, 2001.
•
oh, but what i love. i love the closeness that came from it. i love the gratitude everyone felt in the aftermath for all of those serving. i love that this one day, twenty years later, can still bring a nation together that is seemingly so divided every other day.
•
my heart still feels so heavy, and the only way to combat such sorrow is to turn to a sovereign God. open the word today and see how the Father reveals Himself to you.
•
psalm three shows us some attributes of the Lord that can help us get through the weight and sorrow of today.
•
Father, you are our shield, our glory, the lifter of our heads. you answer our prayers according to your will, you sustain us, and you alone are our salvation. Lord, i ask that no matter what is going on in our hearts today, or what is going on around us that we turn to you. please turn our eyes to you and your truth. you sustain our every need according to your will. please remind us of who you are and why we are here, not just today, but everyday. amen.
