Fiber Art by Carola Fiber Art by Carola is my soulful, creative journey where fashion, memory, & ancestral traditions meet.

My work honors the slow process of textile-making practiced on Daniel Hill & East Wilson, rooted in the black-sandy soil of Contentnea Creek Homeland. Fiber Art by Carola is the design and retail branch of Stitching Culture. It is the brand and online store where artist Carola Jones offers one-of-a-kind medicine cloth pieces of hand-dyed, stitched, and embellished wearable and home goods. Inspired

by Indigenous Eastern Woodlands and Gullah Geechee traditions, the Collections are sold online three times a year: Fall New Moons, Spring Greening Up, and Indigenous Fashion Week. Each creation is a meditation on place, ancestry, and transformation, blending indigo, madder, and natural dyes with hand embroidery, quilting, and beadwork. Fiber Art by Carola celebrates sustainable, small-batch making where every textile tells a story of reclamation and reverence for the land.

Indigenous Geechee Gullah people have been indigo dyeing in Coastal Carolina for 300+ years, and we are “Still Here.” Still dyeing like our ancestors. Our ways aren’t primitive or outsider. No, our ancestors didn’t have scales and scientific equipment. We purchased our dye supplies at the Piggly Wiggly & local farm supply store. Most of what we used, we grew or harvested from the land.

I can see the change in myself. My grief depression is gone. Hallelujah! I fasted and prayed the I Surrender prayer during Lent, and God’s grace and mercy gave me an Easter Blessing — grief acceptance and transformation. Pain is a hard teacher but contentment and calm wait on the other side. I’m humbled and thankful for every day and every breath.

Lastly, I started embellishing a jeans jacket & a shirt. Made bookmarks as give-away. The experience was a breath of cool mountain air to my little Fe and soul. It was my exhale after surviving grief depression. was the visual real-time blessing & first creative adventure after my healing transformation to grief acceptance Easter. I’m thankful to have been included to attend Arrowmont this Spring.
