The goal of Rügrat Design is to create clothing and accessories that are unique, stylish, beautiful, quality, and creative as well as budget-conscious. I know that if it's not comfortable, practical, and liked by the kids - it will hang in their closet unworn until they outgrow it. I strive to select fabrics that are soft and comfortable for children as well as stylish in their design and colors t

o create styles that are unique for your Rügrats. I am continually adding items to the product line which currently includes children's clothing, accessories, baby gifts, items for mothers, and more! Rügrat Design is a one woman shop - me! All items are personally sewn and created with care in my home studio. Maybe someday I'll have a shop (a daydream I like to entertain sometimes) but for now, I work from home which allows me to be with my kids, as they are my inspiraton! Until my shop dream becomes a reality, I'll continue to do as I have since I started in 2010.....treating every customer like they were a part of our family. Other companies and shops may offer similar products, but I'm am thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a personal touch that comes from working one on one with each client and creating each Rügrat Design product with love, attention to detail, and your Rügrat in mind. Covid prayer flags- pandemic Pinterest- call it what you want. The fabric masks in progress are currently decorating the living room today. Take one down....stitch it around....98 masks on the window....

I’m most grateful to my neighbor who cut out the fabric for me and delivered (in a very socially distancing safe sort of way) for me to sew. These are headed to nursing home employees, vets, elderly and food workers in our community. They’re not for sale. Anyone who has asked for one and receives one is invited to make a voluntary donation. I will donate all donations to the Worthington Resource Pantry.

We don’t always think about just how many are still being brave to go to work and help our community have what we need. They’re at risk as well as their ability to fully self quarantine is limited. I was thrilled time make some masks for the meat counter team at Whole Foods. They want masks but didn’t want to take Medical PPEs from the hospitals.

Remember to thank those in the community unable to fully shelter in place so they can help us get what we need!

It has been a minute (or couple months?) since my last post. Rugrat hasn’t been nearly as busy because the rest of life has been quite busy. But the shut down has provided some down time and a chance to get back to the sewing machine. Many of my fabric scraps are turning into to fabric masks for our responders, nursing homes and citizens in need. Feels good to be able to help - and also see these pretty scrap serve such a good purpose!

Fabric Clean Out! It’s time to purge some of the excess fabric I have. All of it is brand new. Never washed. Smoke free home. Different colors and sizes. Everything is at least a fat quarter size and I have up to multiple yard pieces. Order your surprise bag today! Each bag will include a mix of fabric sizes and colors. Rugrat JUNIOR has been back at it this week sewing up snack bags in preparation for school lunches. These bags are a great way to limit trash and plastic use. Each reusable snack bag is lined with food safe nylon and has a Velcro closure. Washable. Lay flat to dry. Reuse. $5/each.

She currently has the following for sale:

A few years ago we were promoting reusable snack bags and sandwich wraps to support my daughter’s field studies trip. She made over 300 items to raise funds to attend. She has just finished that trip (thank you for the support which helped her to attend- it was life changing!) and she’s even more dedicated to creating reusable items. During their trip the group learned a lot about the amount of waste associated with meals and how much we are hurting the environment with plastics and trash.

She’s home now and in full production mode making fabric napkins for meal times and lunch boxes to help combat the waste footprint we make.

Sets of 4 napkins are $15.

She’ll also be making more snack bags and sandwich wraps she tells me.

Currently she has blue/white, green/white and pink/white stripe napkins available. Mix and match or pick all the same color. Napkins are 100% cotton and approx 12” square.

Learning how Wilson sews every football by hand was quite impressive today. I got to try my hand at stitching, stretching and lacing a football by hand the way the employees at the factory do it- only they do hundreds per hour and I was much much slower! Oh my. Let’s just say Rugrat won’t be offering footballs anytime soon.

The struggle is real! We are moving and the amount of fabric I’ve packed to move is pretty embarrassing. Starting in 2019 Rugrat will be creating items and selling off inventory to use up the massive amounts of fabrics. Stay tuned for fun finds at bargain prices.

There is one proud kiddo in our house tonight. She worked hard most of the afternoon as we made her sleepover bag. She’s watched big sister have a bag for years and finally she made her own and has it packed ready for a sleepover this weekend. Teach them young- sewing is a great life skill (and a wonderful way to bond over projects together!).
