Wishing everyone a happy winter solstice and beautiful Christmas.
We sincerely appreciate your business and encouragement this past year.
I thought it would be fun to share a recent find in the Annex, as we continue to restore the old house. It was found in a place not accessible since the house was built. It is a ceramic box of tooth paste, with a dried up chunk inside. It was so dirty we couldn't see any writing on it when Fritz discovered it. There must have been a carpenter with a nice smile!

Yesterday was a special day with a friend, Kathy Bernheisel Crager. We had lunch at The Last Queen in Enon, and then drove to Tippecanoe Weaver and Fibers Too in Tipp City, Ohio. It was our first time there, and it was a delightful experience. The owner, Kay, was welcoming and very patient with all our questions. She was more than generous with her time and knowledge. There is a very nice selection of yarns for knitting, weaving and spinning, as well as tools for those crafts. There are plenty of samples to inspire, and patterns for everything from sweaters, animals and bags to Christmas bulbs. I highly recommend the shop as a destination point. There's even a porch with chairs if someone needs to wait for you!

If you come to the Fair at New Boston this weekend, September 2-3, 2023, in Springfield, Ohio, there will be some young artisans whose work you should see. There will be pin keeps, so you may have pins safely in your pocket or work bag. Lovely hand cut and painted artificial paper flowers will be available for your bonnet or tables. Lavender and cat mint sachets are ready to bring pleasant scents indoors as winter approaches. The "Fair Sisters" will be based to the right at the bottom of the entrance, near Kannik's Korner. You may also see the young ladies about the Fair. Please take a moment to consider their wares.

Despite what it says on our website, the indoor Living History Trade Fair held in Freemont, Ohio, has a new date!

It is now the first full weekend of April! Check out their details at
https://www.facebook.com/LivingHistoryTradeFair/

It is a good place to purchase supplies and meet other reenactors! It is also easy to access from major highways, and is in a heated, well lit building.

The Living History Trade Fair is a place to buy reenacting supplies, meet reenactors, recruiting for military reenactment groups, trekking groups and more!

To everyone!

We hope we can do some great historical activities
in 2022,
in person or online.
We have to keep living history active, and reach out to others to share our knowledge and love of history.

Keep watching for news from

It suddenly occured to me that I was told that my great-great-grandmother had put up all the lathe in the house she had in Detroit. Now I am tearing out lath again! How times change, right down to the nail -square or round.

A month ago, we made a huge decision and bought the 1874 Italianate house right next to ours. Like 4 feet from ours. We have been working steadily on getting it "deforested", and freed from huge ivy, and cleaned out. It is a fixer upper, but architecturally sound. It has been dubbed "Kannik's Annex". The plan is to move the business there and free up space in our home for future restoration work. There will be room for small classes in the Annex, so we look forward to being able to host various needlework and history related events.
