Hello, and Happy New Year!
I’m Stephanie, Cur8able’s founder and CEO, and I’m thrilled you’re here. I’ll get to our new beginning tomorrow, but today, I had to take a moment to wish you an incredible new year filled with the beautiful, mundane moments that make up our lives. You know the moments, sitting at the table or the counter drinking tea or coffee, laughing at something funny someone said or something silly a pet did. Even reacting to social media posts and world events that break your heart, that’s life, the moments between the big dreams.
I’ve always admired humanitarians, and although I’ve advocated for my community, the disabled community, all of my adult life, I don’t feel like I’m a humanitarian yet, which is why I’ve spent the last few years reading, watching, and learning everything I can about experienced humanitarians and philanthropists who most people will never know since they don’t post their work on social media. They serve others consistently, wholeheartedly, and quietly. My high-view takeaway from my research is:
Be true to yourself, which will undoubtedly make you polarizing, so be polarizing.
Don’t compare your advocacy to others; we can change things together if we all advocate using our strengths.
Seek to understand as opposed to seeking to be understood. (This one hit me like a painful yet welcomed ton of bricks at a time I needed it)
Some of the greatest, most impactful humanitarians had hobbies, read books, enjoyed the arts, and did other things that brought them joy. So, as you advocate for others, continue to find joy.
Take care of yourself. You can’t help anyone else if you’re not well. I want to be clear: you define what “well” is for you.
Be well, friends, and again, Happy New Year!
