I am shocked that people are shocked that the WhatsApp communication between the general and his team was leaked.
Let me tell you something, there is no secret on WhatsApp. Once you hit that send button, whether it's a voice note, text, image or audio, consider it public information.
Information secrecy is the backbone of war and every military operation. When I was studying cryptography, which is the science of concealing information from unwanted party, I had to study the second world war extensively because in the heart of the second world war, like any war was cryptography, the Germans created a cryptic machine known as the enigma machine. A Polish mathematician known as Alan Turin created the Turin Machine that could break virtually any code and that was how the Germans were defeated.
WhatsApp is not in any way something that should come up in a conversation at the theatre of war. As a matter of fact, if I should be the Chief of Defence Staff, no soldier will enter the battle field with his personal mobile device. If you are captured or killed or you lose your device in the battle field and your enemy gets hold of it, imagine the amount of information they will get.
Now the dead general's phone is with the terrorist. Just imagine the amount of information they will have access to, battle plans, logistics, weapons inventory and so on. A Brigadier commands a brigade. A brigade consists of 2 to 5 battalions. One battalion consists of anything between 500 to 1,000 men. So we are talking of roughly 1,500 to 5,000 soldiers under his command. They probably have WhatsApp groups, he has back and forth text messaging with them on very sensitive tactical situations.
Upon all that, they have access to soldiers they can recruit as informants and saboteurs for a price. How much are we paying our soldiers? How well are they fed? How about their wives and kids? A few thousands and he will cave in. His wife is either pregnant or just gave birth, he needs to pay medical bills.
May the LORD help us in this country.
I wish one day we will be free.
My Prayers is for God to keep on protecting us.
