There's a lot to unpack in this article. While what's toxic and what isn't is truly subjective (depending on your allergies, your children, your pets, etc.), this article illustrates what paraffin does when mixed with wax.

This is why we can't ever really turn a profit with our candles: if they were priced just on ingredients (100% soy wax, essential fragrance oil, and no fillers), MINUS the .925 sterling silver jewelry, and removing packaging prices and labor cost (since it's been a labor of love), we still take a hit. This isn't a complaint; it's just fact.

Mass-produced candles from multi-million dollar corporations cut corners, but just be aware of what you're burning. We see the black smoke as an annoyance, a visible signal that inferior materials are used and can ruin the interior paint in your homes. If you own birds, these can compromise their health. But we aren't begrudging anyone in this economy for saving a few dollars when buying a jar candle from B&BW as a treat.

This one specific brand of candles is a cult favorite. However, the paraffin wax they use could be the reason for a lot of your symptoms.

Okay, now here's a step onto foreign territory. Once upon a time (as in when we launched), 2 rules were the lines in the sand:

1. No, don't give me a piece of fine jewelry to hide in these candles.

2. The "vessels" (the thing we pour and cure your candles in) are only to be the tins and glass, 4 oz and 8 oz, that I get from my vendors.

#1 is a permanent rule. I am not about to play with something that potentially cost you thousands of dollars and may or may not be insured. I can't chance your fine jewelry. The process has been perfected on the pieces in my curated collection, but I'm not hiding your great-aunt Ethel's 100 year old pearl ring in hot wax and curing it. No.

However, #2 has a little wiggle room. I will now entertain clients bringing vessels of their own for me to consider using. If you have a special, heat-safe jar, bottle or other style container you would like to bring to me to do your pour and cure, I will consider it. But I have to inspect it and become comfortable with it.

Ultimately, I don't want to break your stuff. But I will work with you on your choice of vessel. I may also look into different types to keep in stock.

As per policy change, remember that you and I will collaborate on your intended, specific scents, instead of me doing them by the batch. I will resume booking private appointments starting May 1.

For my clients: as you know, I have an eye for curating good jewelry lines at reasonable prices. I am NOT GIA certified and cannot write you an appraisal on your fine jewelry that you own.

But if you care to do a quickie test on any stones you have, I have acquired a diamond tester. It's simple and takes a minute. So if you're going through some of your jewelry box looking to part with things you don't wear, maybe your great Aunt's ring you inherited wasn't a costume piece after all.

We have restructured our format of the creation and production of Stately Silver Luxury Candle Co.

From this point onward (on our One Year Anniversary), we are focusing on collaboration with our customers. Work with us to create your scent; it can be something you know you want, or we can craft together to find your signature blend.

We are sticking with our former pricing structure, so even in this economic climate, we are extremely client-friendly. There are no fillers in our soy candles. No paraffin, no dyes, no black smoke.

We are staying with our finer .925 sterling silver collection, always curating and finding pieces that will last for years. This time, however, if you don't wish to be completely surprised, you can choose your gem color and whether you wish for a ring, earrings, or set.

We are expanding the jewelry side. Cindy Gradisher will always have a case at the ready of ready-to-purchase, ready-to-wear pieces for all occasions, from daily to formal.

As we come up on our one-year anniversary as your favorite luxury candle company, we're adjusting course a bit.

To continue our second-to-none quality, we are doing away with Scent Of The Month and buying out our existing subscriptions*; Luxury candles going forward will be thrown quarterly, seasonally.

We will also be catering more toward private clients who wish for specific scents and jewelry sets as Special Orders for gifts. (We need a minimum of a 2 week lead time to accommodate special orders so that the candles cure properly.)

As always, our jewelry line is available for purchase without it being concealed within a candle. We have wonderful inventory that we are always adding to, and certain pieces that can't be inside of a candle, i.e. Omega chains.

*All subscribers and their contracts will be honored. For example, our first yearly subscriber has four months left on her contract. To compensate our early termination, she will be receiving 2 glass jar candles (subscriptions include our $25 tin candles and not our $40 jars), 1 tin candle, and 1 tin mandle.
