Now that school and kindy have started back, I'm spending some more time in my treasure cave putting sets together and creating some upcycled kitchen units. My happy place ❤

This gorgeous ceramic set caught my eye last week. The pint-sized cups are the perfect size for little hands and nice and thick, so will withstand a few drops on the floor as the children become accustomed to using them respectfully. If we trust children with authentic materials, they will better understand the world around them. This set is available for $30 and comes with a teapot, milk jug and silver tray.

Let your little ones get creative making nature inspired potions and concoctions - petals, leaves, seeds and all sorts of treasures found in the garden can be added to sand or water play to add a touch of fantasy.

Babies don't need bright, noisy, expensive plastic toys! They need natural, open ended, authentic items to explore and play with. The simplest playthings are often the best, and encourage your pepi to connect with their world and become a part of it x

My local primary school is adopting a play-based learning approach. I was lucky enough to spend some time with the passionate new entrant teacher to help set up some play spaces and provide some Re-Loved resources. The children are going to have a great time learning in this class.

School and kindy are back this week(!!!!!) which means I get to dive back into my Re-Loved cupboard and start tinkering! I can't wait to show you some of the new sets I've made. But in the meantime, here is a picture of the small play kitchen and cooking set I put together for my little ones 4th birthday. She spends hours cooking and mixing and playing at it. And the best part is it is all made from recycled and second hand, real materials.

Thank you Hutt City Childcare Centre for inviting me to spend time with your wonderful teaching team to create this beautiful learning space for your under two tamariki and pēpe in your new extension. My first opportunity to build and provide low play shelving and boxes and to set up an entire learning space from scratch as part of Re-loved.

I've been enjoying making some fabric and natural resource hangings, mobiles and buntings over the last couple of weeks. I've really enjoyed being creative, making something with my hands and ALL from fabric, yarn and paper scraps that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.

Children's play spaces should reflect the world they live in, not a plastic and artificial imitation of it. I love creating play areas from recycled, re-purposed, genuine articles that are child friendly (& childsized where possible).
This is a play space created for the children at "The Remakery" in Epuni, which is part of The Common Unity Project. Not a single item purchased from toy shops, or educational catalogues. All items are either found, donated, saved or op-shopped.
