This may be a photo of me at the gym, but I'm here to talk about Barbie. "Vanessa...why are you talking about Barbie dolls?..." Because I need you to know that you're perfect exactly as you are.
And because I know I'm not alone when I say that a majority of women who played with barbies as young girls probably WISHED that they were white and had blonde and/or colored eyes.
But the thing is, women aren't born wanting to look that way. They only desire that because of the way Barbie was praised and portrayed as the IDEAL WOMAN.
She was happy, she was popular she was successful... the list goes on. But the thing is, she was just a doll. Yet she had so much influence on young girls around the world. It's crazy to think that something as innocent as a toy company could trick us into believing that being light-skinned, blonde-haired, and blue-eyed was the epitome of beauty and worth.
Now, this post isn't to bash Barbie or the Mattel company, it's to remind you how crucial it is to immerse our children in a self-love & body positive environment. This post is to remind you that toys have so much more influence than we think.
All of this is to remind you that YOU are beautiful exactly as you are. You don't need to fit society's current beauty ideal to FEEL worthy and beautiful. In fact, we can redefine those terms to fit who we are!
Don't let the media brainwash you into thinking you have to change the way you look to be accepted.
Because guess what, girl?
You're already worthy & beautiful by just being you.
With that said, I'll be over here showing appreciation towards my big hips, muscles, and dark, curly hair.💁🏻♀️ I want you to show appreciation to something you normally don't like about yourself. 💕
