I haven’t always felt confident with colour.
Although I now have a distinctive use of colour and it’s often what people associate with my work, for years I lacked confidence.
At university, I was regularly marked down for my use of colour
(Although looking back I was often told I had to use colours forecasted in trend publications, and they rarely inspired me).
Some of my early freelance work designing swatches was less likely to be successful if I used colour, but sold better if I stuck to neutral shades.
Despite wearing colour with confidence and being surrounded by it in my home, I wasn’t confident about using it in my work.
Did you know my first scarves for Collingwood-Norris were in greys? And they’re still going strong!
Then I realised my colour choices didn’t have to fit in with trends any more.
I could create colour palettes I loved, and that would look great on people
The whole point of Collingwood-Norris is that it’s not trend led, it’s designed to be worn year after year. You can choose to wear colours that make you feel great, rather than having to wear something someone else tells you is cool this month.
The colours in my work are often inspired by my walk in the Scottish Borders. The changing colours of the seasons endlessly bring me joy.
They’re colours I hope will make you feel joy too!
