Some updates for you all...

Light Rock Fishing in Kassiopi, Northern Corfu.
Having arrived late on Friday night, the next day I was keen to check out the fishing opportunities near our small harbourside hotel. Luckily a small stone jetty was a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel entrance, so I made a tentative start drop shotting a small piece of Isome on a #14 Owner Pin hook. I quickly caught an Annular Bream and the first of many Rainbow Wrasse before switching to a split shot rig ( #16 Owner Pin hook, 4lb Tict fluorocarbon and a single SSG shot) resulting in a hefty take, line peeling off the reel and a fish lost amongst the smooth rocky bottom…90% sure that was the first Parrotfish take of the holiday!
Throughout the week I revisited the pier several times catching Red Cardinal Fish, Madera Rockfish, Slender Goby, Parrotfish and tiny Barracuda. All fell to the split shot rig with brown or pink medium Isome apart from the Barracuda which were tricked by Ecogear Glass Minnows on a Shirasu Head and Ecogear Strawtail Grubs on a Decoy Rocket Head, fished in a darting style.

Around each side of the pretty harbour were easily accessible rock marks, where I spent much of my fishing time. On the first visit I stuck to fishing the calmer inlets picking up species including Tompot Blenny, Rock Goby, Scorpionfish, Parrotfish, Ornate, Painted and Rainbow Wrasse, Annular and Saddled Bream and Red Cardinal Fish After a while I concentrated on casting into the clear open sea and allowing my split shot rig to drift amongst the smooth underwater rocks, washing into nooks and crannies that natural food would naturally rest. I concentrated on the split shot rig after quickly realising that the natural movement was much more effective than the more static motion of a drop shot rig.
Amazingly, throughout the trip I only lost around five rigs!

On the last morning of the holiday I walked to a pebbled beach, 20 minutes away from the hotel. Arriving just after first light with a small selection of hard lures I waded into the crystal clear water and excitedly made my first cast with a Duo Ryuki Spearhead 50S in Wagasaki pattern, which was quickly attacked by a small Dusky Grouper.
Over the next hour I had multiple bites and landed around 15 fish including Painted Comber, Goldblotch Grouper, slightly larger Barracuda, and a tiny Bluefish.
With the sun rising and the bites becoming less frequent I made my last cast and landed a small, but reasonably powerful silvery fish that was later identified (thank you!) as a Juvenile Leerfish, which was to be the final species caught, and probably my favourite capture.

I brought two setups with me - a 6 piece Spro Mobile Stick coupled with a Shimano Rarenium 1000 reel with 8lb Sunline Siglon braid and a telescopic Major Craft Solpara paired with a Shimano Stradic 1000 and 6lb Sunline Small game braid.

Kassiopi was an brilliant destination with all the amenities for a relaxing family holiday and multiple varied locations to wet a line. Over the time we were there I fished for around 15 hours in total and picked up 17 species, 9 of which I’d never caught before.
I managed to film all but one or two of these on the GoPro, so will upload a video to my Youtube channel (Aquazid Studio) at some point in the future.

Well, as you may have seen. I have changed from The Essex Angler to Chasing Bites.

It will still be me (Bailey) making the videos, joined with friends as before. The reason for the change is to remove the limits of "The Essex Angler" and be general. I hope in the coming months to do a lot more fishing new areas outside of Essex and exploring! We will very much be "Chasing Bites"

Thanks to everyone for their support in the time of The Essex Angler, and I hope you continue to follow me now as Chasing Bites. I massively appreciate all of you who watch my channel and follow me.

There will be a new video on Sunday...let's just say, I think it will be a good one!

Last week I was in Makarska, Croatia on a ten-day family holiday, so I’ve done a short account of the fishing I experienced…
Makarska is a brilliant destination for a family holiday, with jaw-dropping scenery, beaches, lovely restaurants, and lots to see and do.

I discovered that it’s also great for fishing, with various opportunities offered by a large marina hosting multiple stone and wooden jetties and rocky outcrops at each end.

Strangely, the chosen hotel was 30 seconds away from a marina, making ad hoc fishing sessions very easy.

The first couple of days I fished right outside the hotel trying a split shot rig with a #18 hook and a small piece of some. This accounted for multiple Rainbow Wrasse and Saddled Bream. I had to scale down to a tanago to hook one of the multitudes of Damsel Fish inhabiting the marina.

The next couple of days saw me exploring amongst the boats around the area, catching a random Mullet on a dropshot, from a dark corner between the main marina and a stone jetty, and sight fishing with a slip shot rig for Rusty Blennies and Gobies that were hanging around on the marinas’ walls.

A few 5 am starts and dusk sessions with metals and hard baits resulted in no bites from the Barracudas, although I was trying spots along the rocks recommended by the locals.

During the heat of the day dropshotting small pieces of isome close in on the large jetty next to my hotel produced a surprise Red Mullet and plenty of Bream.

Over the last few days, I scaled up to half an XL isome on a size 6 hook casting as far as I could onto sand, and out to the edge of rocks. Having only brought 4g max dropshot weight I had to improvise by doubling them up and sometimes adding capsule-shaped split shots from the local fishing shop. Not the most finesse presentation but it paid off with Greater Weevers up to 28cm, Black Scorpion Fish, and a lone False Scad.

I ended up with 12 species, listed below.
