Previllage Lifestyle: *Where Streetwear Meets Culture, Roots, and Resilience
East London, South Africa: In the heart of the Eastern Cape’s creative scene, Songezo Njokwana widely known as Pablo West is redefining what it means to merge fashion with purpose. Born in the small village of Kubusie in Stutterheim, raised in Dimbaza, and now based in East London, Pablo has turned his lifelong love for design into a streetwear brand with a soul: Previllage Lifestyle.
A Creative Design Lecturer in the Fashion Department at Walter Sisulu University, Pablo is much more than a designer. He is a visual artist, a community builder, and a passionate street culture enthusiast. His brand has already dressed high-profile personalities such as Mafa Bavuma, Stokie from Gqebera: The Empire, HOOBA, Liyema from Big Brother Mzansi, and Phila Madlingozi to name a few.
A Journey Rooted in Passion
Pablo’s fashion journey began humbly. As a young boy, he would deconstruct old clothes and reimagine them into fresh design pieces so unique that his friends begged to buy them. This early experimentation planted the seeds for what would later become a signature style blending cultural storytelling with bold streetwear aesthetics.
After completing his Fashion Design studies at Walter Sisulu University (formerly known as Eastern Cape Technikon) Pablo resisted the urge to immediately launch his brand. “I didn’t want to create a brand that would trend for a short while and then disappear,” he says. “I wanted something with a relatable story, a brand that people connect with, one that will outlive me.”
The Birth of Previllage Lifestyle
Founded in 2010, Previllage Lifestyle was born from Pablo’s desire to connect people with their roots while pushing the boundaries of streetwear design. Each piece carries a narrative drawing from the values of Ubuntu, resilience, and self-love. The brand’s emblem, the phoenix, reflects its vision: to inspire people to rise from the ashes of hopelessness into greatness.
Beyond Fashion, Building Communities
Pablo’s creative mission extends far beyond clothing. He is the visionary behind a township bodybuilding and lifestyle club, the founder and administrator of the Dimbaza News and More page, and the driving force behind the Dimbaza Community Builder of the Year Awards, which celebrate grassroots impact and local excellence.
For Pablo West, style is inseparable from substance. Previllage Lifestyle is not just about what you wear it’s about the story you carry, the roots you honour, and the communities you uplift.
As South Africa’s streetwear scene grows, Previllage Lifestyle stands out not only for its originality and craftsmanship but also for its unwavering commitment to cultural authenticity and empowerment. In the words of its founder, “Ours is to create beautiful clothing items that tell stories, stories that inspire, heal, and ignite pride in who we are.”
