I honestly wish that the world would stop martering motherhood. Waking up 8 times a night because your newborn needs you is not a punishment, it is a privilege. Breastfeeding your baby does not make you a milk cow stuck on a sofa all day, it makes you a queen, on a throne, that can provide nourishment at the perfect temperature, with the best, organic, uniquely formulated food perfectly regulated for your baby free of charge. Having a messy house, dirty hair and piled up laundry is not being lazy, it's a gift, that you are able to prioritize holding your baby in your arms rather than a mop. Motherhood is the most extraordinary gift that you can ever experience. Enjoy the endless nights with your newborn, the quiet moments under the stars. The closeness of knowing you are loved and needed.

Never forgot that you were created to birth, your body instinctively knows what to do, and so does your baby. Trust in nature. Birth is beautiful.

A baby cannot look at you and explain, “Mama, I’m scared, I’m lonely, I’m uncomfortable, I’m overwhelmed, and I need you,” so they do the only thing they know how to do: they cry.

Crying is communication, and before babies have words, it is one of the primary ways they can tell us that something doesn’t feel right.

They may be hungry, tired, uncomfortable, frightened, overstimulated, or simply needing the safety and closeness of the person they know best. They are not manipulating us or trying to control us, they are babies with developing brains and nervous systems who depend on us.

This is why we should not deliberately ignore a baby’s cries in an attempt to teach them not to cry. If crying is communication, intentionally refusing to respond means choosing not to answer the communication they have available.

A baby becoming quiet because you left them to cry-it-out does not mean they have become calm or learned to self-regulate, and research has even found situations in which babies stopped signaling while physiological measures of stress remained elevated. Silence does not necessarily mean the stress or need is gone!

Babies develop their ability to regulate through repeated experiences of being regulated with us. When we hold them, rock them, speak to them, comfort them, and respond to their cries, we help their developing nervous systems move from distress toward safety. Those experiences help build the foundation for emotional regulation, trust, secure attachment, and eventually greater independence.

Also, responsive parenting does not mean perfection. Sometimes you’re driving, caring for another child, using the bathroom, or simply need a moment to collect yourself. There will be times when you genuinely cannot respond immediately, and that is very different from intentionally withholding comfort when you are able to give it.

There will be plenty of time for independence. For now, when your baby cries and you can respond, respond. You are showing them again and again that they are heard, they matter, they are safe, and someone will be there when they need help. ❤️

So this week my son, the one who made me a mom for the first time, celebrated his 23rd birthday. I look at him and am amazed. He is kind, caring, funny, intelligent and the most loving young man. He will do anything for his sisters, anything I ask and if he can spoil anyone he will. He is a beautiful, blessed and precious gift from God. I look at this beautiful, tall 23 year old man, but I see my chubby toothless one year old. Your baby stays your baby, no matter how old they are.

Today was the day my Mom left us for Heaven several years ago. I miss her everyday. When we become parents ourselves, we realize that our parents were only human too.. With parenthood comes an understanding of things that you never really could as a child. I feel sorrow that my children are missing out on her and my dad. But her smile will never be forgotten. Love your parents as much as you can while you have them.

Today my baby turned 15. I look at this witty, talented, driven, kind and wondrous young lady and am amazed. I felt her first flutter in my belly. I nurtured her beneath my heart in anticipation and expectation. The sound of her first cry, the first time I saw her sweet little face, the first time I could hold her to my breast, and the intensity of protective and overwhelming love has forever been imprinted upon my soul. Now at 15, I see this beauty, this artist, this musician. She lives with passion, she feels everything with depth, she sees the world through the tip of a paintbrush, and her voice sings the songs of hope, love and a passion that is uniquely hers. My love and pride in this beautiful girl child of mine is indescribable. Happy Birthday my Little Baby girl.

Is it not just the most wonderful thing to be part of? To watch, love and share in the wonders of birth, newborn, breastfeeding and all those special firsts. How blessed am I. Every mom is special to me, every newborn cry I hear, every tear of joy shared. It's a journey, a bond and another special little soul that fills my heart.
