Our Story
Graaff-Reinet Gear Manufacturing have opened their doors in Te Water Street, Graaff-Reinet, South Africa. A new business venture focussing primarily on the manufacturing of industrial safety gear and overalls for the marine & mining industries through a partner in Cape Town. GR Gear will also be catering for the building, farming & food industries both locally and nationally using mainly South African produced components. Fabrics, zips, elastics & threads from various factories in Cape Town along with a local workforce from this area ensure that all the products manufactured on-site will be 100% South African made. Several standard industry designs as well as custom-made products in a range of colours & finishes will be made to high quality specifications and affordably competitive prices. Customised designs, sizes, combinations and fit will be catered for in tailor-made consignments for the local market, ensuring each customers’ order would uniquely represent their business, product or enterprise. GR Gear’s manufacturing output will not be limited to overalls or safety gear but will also cater for hotels, schools, sports apparel and leisure wear requirements. Customised designs and small to medium quantity orders for the local market are offered with speedy turnaround times and easy accessibility.
GR Gear opened in June 2019 with the aim to employ local women in soft industry, manufacturing overalls and safety gear for national & local distribution. The ethos of GR Gear is to empower women through financial independence in an area where the majority of employment opportunities are male-dominated industries, like construction, farming, manual labour, etc.
We offer onsite training in sewing & garment manufacturing and endeavour to offer business courses like Budgetting, Excel, Word, Business Management, Project Management, Garment Design, etc. to our full time staff members. We look forward to working with our local community & businesses to promote Graaff-Reinet as a Centre of Excellence in scope & the capabilities of our residents.
