This Women’s Month on Your Sunday Reset, I had a n exhilarating chat with Dr Hafsa Essop, Radiography lecturer at the University of Pretoria and winner of the SAWISA Distinguished Young Woman Researcher Award.

Dr Hafsa Essop always knew she wanted to be in the Health Sciences, but she felt that becoming a medical doctor would be too demanding for her. She found her path in Radiography — and discovered a field filled with opportunities and different career paths.

From working at a shop at a young age and selling ice cream with her family, to the sacrifices and support of her father who worked hard to help fund her education, her journey is one of humility, resilience and determination.

Today, she’s an educator, researcher and the founder of PregiDose, an app helping pregnant radiographers stay safe while working with radiation.

A remarkable woman who found her path — and is now creating new paths for others.

I had the privilege of speaking with Isra Chaker, a Syrian-American human rights activist and Founder & CEO of Every Pregnancy.

Isra’s work is rooted in compassion, advocacy and a powerful belief that every woman deserves dignity, support and access to the care and resources she needs throughout pregnancy and beyond.

During their time in South Africa, Isra Chaker and the Every Pregnancy team were also here to listen to the needs and experiences of the South African community — an important step towards laying roots for the organisation in South Africa and ensuring that its work here is shaped by the people and communities it hopes to serve.

We unpacked Isra’s journey as an activist, what drives her passion for human rights, and the vision behind Every Pregnancy — work that seeks to educate, support and empower women while shining a light on issues that deserve greater attention.

Anisa Mazimpaka’s journey is one of courage, conviction and a deep commitment to social justice.

Her story asks us an important question:
What happens when you refuse to stay silent about the things that matter?

Her activism began during the Fees Must Fall movement, and over the years her career has taken her into the heart of local government, including working in the Office of the Mayor of Johannesburg.

But for Anisa Mazimpaka , the work goes beyond titles and positions. She is passionate about education, empowerment and what she calls “soft education” — equipping young people with the knowledge, confidence and tools they need to navigate life and create change.

She is also the founder of the Anisa Mazimpaka Foundation, continuing her commitment to empowering communities and opening doors for others.

And then there was the moment she stood face-to-face with President Cyril Ramaphosa and boldly raised issues of social injustice and access to education in South Africa.

This is a conversation about activism, education, courage, leadership and using your voice — even when the room is intimidating.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Ayesha Milanzi, lawyer and Founder of The Tha'alabah Sisterhood, as she shared the remarkable story behind her success. From listening to her parents' guidance in choosing law, to the incredible kindness of a woman who believed in her dreams and funded her education after hearing her speak as a young girl, Ayesha's journey is a powerful reminder of how one act of belief can change a life.

She also shares what inspired her to establish The Thaalabah Sisterhood—a space where young women are empowered through meaningful conversations, educational events, genuine sisterhood, and plenty of fun along the way. A team of brilliant young women taking networking to a whole new level!
