Hi, I’m Susan 👋

I realised that although many of you may have seen Cosy Corner Creations at a market or followed the page for a while, I haven’t properly introduced myself or shared how this little business began.

Cosy Corner Creations will be two years old around August/September, and it all started through my friendship with Sarah, the founder of Baba Fishees.

Sarah and I have known each other since before we were teenagers, and I had always admired the beautiful business she had built. I eventually began working on her website, and the more I got to know the clothing and the quality of the products, the more I loved them. That eventually led to me buying stock and beginning to sell the range myself.

For about a year, you could find me regularly at the Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market. Since then, the business has changed and evolved, and I can now be found at different markets across KwaZulu-Natal from the North Coast to the Midlands.

My goal is to take the brand to the people.

That means I am always looking for lovely, good-quality markets where Cosy Corner Creations will be a good fit. So please follow the page to see where I’ll be next and if you know of a market I may not have discovered yet, I would genuinely love to hear about it.

Over time, I noticed that many customers were choosing our pieces as gifts either for baby showers, new babies, birthdays or special visits. Because of that, Cosy Corner Creations is gradually becoming more of a carefully curated baby gifting experience.

I am not entirely sure yet where that journey will lead, but that is part of the excitement.

Another dream that has been quietly taking shape is a range of wooden educational pieces, created together with my husband using his woodworking skills. I’ll be sharing more about those soon.

For today, though, I simply wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

Next week, I’ll introduce my husband, James (if he'll let me), who is a very important part of everything that happens behind the scenes. I honestly could not do this without him.

Thank you for following our journey and please keep an eye on the page and follow me to see where Cosy Corner Creations will pop up next. 🤍🤗

I think I met a future leader yesterday at the Highbury Preparatory School Family Day Market.

I was watching a dad pull his children past my stall in one of those little pull-along wagons.
His little girl climbed out, and I remember wondering where she was going.
She made a beeline for my stall and chose the pink outfit.

It was too small, so I found another colour in her size. She ran to her mom and immediately started taking off her clothes because she wanted to wear it right then.

When her mom felt the lighter colour would get too dirty, she did not give up. She came back, looked again and chose the brown “Making Memories” outfit instead.

She knew what she wanted. When her first choice did not work, she simply found another solution.

It was only afterwards that I found out she was three.
That made me smile because my own daughter was the same age when she started showing those early signs of leadership. She knew her own mind, made her own choices and was not easily persuaded otherwise. (She is an excellent negotiator now)!

What can sometimes look like stubbornness in a little child may also be confidence, persistence and the ability to make their own decisions.

Perhaps that is where leadership first begins? What do you think - agree or disagree?

Highbury families, I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

I had such a lovely time at last year’s Highbury Family Day, so I’m really pleased to be coming back again.

I’ll have a beautiful selection of baby and toddler clothing, handmade wooden learning pieces and dog bowl stands with me.

Come over for a browse, have a chat and say hello. It’s always such a special day, and I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting a few new ones too.

See you tomorrow at Highbury Preparatory School Family Day! 😊🤗

I need to get this off my chest.

At the market the other day, I missed a moment.

I was on my phone, quickly trying to sort something out. I noticed someone near my stall, but I thought she was still browsing.

Later, my husband told me she had actually picked up a few garments, walked to the front, and waited.

And I didn’t look up properly.

She put everything back and walked away.

I did call out and say hello as she left, but by then the moment had passed.

And honestly, it has stayed with me.

Not because I lost a sale.

Because I may have made someone feel ignored.

That is the part that bothered me.

Cosy Corner Creations is built around thoughtful little things. Baby gifts. Keepsakes. Clothing chosen with love. Things that are meant to make people feel cared for.

And yet, in one distracted moment, I may have made someone feel unseen.

So this is my small reminder to myself.

Look up. Be present. Notice the person in front of you.

Because sometimes people are not just browsing.

Sometimes they are deciding. Sometimes they are unsure. Sometimes they just need a warm hello.

And if that was you, I am truly sorry.

You mattered more than whatever was on my phone and I am sorry I missed that moment.

How often do you get ignored at a market stall and how does it make you feel?

Song throwback to the 70's for those of us who were around then. Who remembers David Cassidy? He was a poster on my wall!

Please share here if he featured on your wall too.

And if you're around tomorrow at The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market, pop in so we can reminisce. 😂😀

If you can't make it tomorrow and you're looking for a baby shower gift, DM me and I can put something together for you!
