Basic guidelines:
1. Octopi must be made from 100% cotton yarn, since it can be washed at high temperatures (60 degrees) and it does not give off fibers that could irritate the preemies' airways.
2. The stuffing should be synthetic fiber filing that can withstand being washed at 60 degrees. The filling of cheap pillows, like those available at PEP is perfect.
3. Stitches should be tight and close together, no holes and no stuffing showing (rather use a smaller hook, 2.5 - 3.5). Use yarn under technique and the invisible increase / invisible decrease techniques to prevent holes.
4. Tentacles should be no longer than 22cm and no shorter than 16cm when outstretched.
5. The body should be between 6 and 9 cm long.
6. It should be stuffed quite firmly, as it becomes softer when it is washed.
