The reason local brands may seem “more expensive” than big retailers like Mr Price or Ackermans comes down to one major factor: resources.
Large companies place massive bulk orders... Overseas manufacturers have minimum order quantities (MOQs) that must be met before production even begins... When a retailer like Mr Price or Markham orders 30,000 T-shirts, they can negotiate prices as low as R20 per shirt...Because the bigger the order, the cheaper the cost per item.
Small local brands don’t have that privilege, Worse the South African Textile industry has been decimated.... We produce in smaller batches, which naturally means higher unit costs... Add customs, logistics and import duties..The price you see isn’t just about profit..It’s the real cost of creating quality products without big-corporate backing nor loans.
So when you support a local brand, you’re not only buying the product...You’re investing in someone’s dream, growth and future....There are people who keep saying bring production to South African shores...?? The question is where..?? Where are the factories..?? Which companies are capable to meet huge production deadlines in a matter of days producing on a large scale like the Chinese do...?? It's really hard to start a brand ...It's a tedious process 🦍🗣
