IMPORTANT ISSUES UNZASU MUST ADDRESS.
Kindly note that I am not affected by the issues am about to outline and am not interested in any political position but my opinion is entirely based on the fact that there are a lot of students who have been affected and may not wish to express themselves. Here are the top two issues to be addressed:
1. POOR CA, NO EXAM
First this move is a good move to raise the standards of the university but it's bad in terms of its marketing strategy as many aspirants will not be wanting to be subjected to such,as a results majority will be going to other universities. On the side of the current students, I feel it's unfair to them looking at more than 40% of students do not stay in campus and Loadshedding has affected their effectiveness. Since No one is talking about it, my appeal is for Unzasu to take a step and give hope to the souls that are already down. Students don't want you to be saviors in the last minutes but they want you to save them now because some of lost hope.
Furthermore, it should be noted that, the assumption that when someone has poor CA means they can't make it is totally wrong for I have seen many with 15/50 CA but still pull through in an exam by getting 60% = 30 marks. Definitely, test are there to assess us but majority of students do better in exams as compared to the Test. UNZASU should take a step and address this before Mid October to help students who have lost hope, push harder.
2. SELF SPONSORSHIP
I feel it's high time these student had their own association and leader who will stand for them. Many are times these people get helped in last minutes which is totally not ok. Looking at the current economic situation, UNZASU should try and involve management to allow these guys to write exams but let their results be with held. Not everyone can raise K31,000 + or K25,000+ in a year looking at how bad business is this year but surely majority can raise before publication of results.
In conclusion, UNZASU should understand that, it's the role of itself to search for problems and solve them. No one or no situation should be your reminder. As a leader make sure that you spend time, look at problems affecting those who elected you and find a solution. Your Job is to see the future and not handling just what's wrong now. It's not about you being proud of little achievement but it's about you wanting to do more.
