Mutinta writes…..
“Strength comes from overcoming what you once thought you could not”.
My failure to make it to the University of Zambia seemed like a family calamity because both my parents were school teachers. I was forever reminded that my future was bleak. While working for Zambia Airways, I started a practice of buying and selling clothes. Unfortunately, the airline was forced into liquidation in 1994. What was my side hustle became my main hustle. In 1998, I opened a clothes shop called Genuine Collections which continues to thrive to date. However, the feeling of discontentment kept creeping in. When I hit my record low, I had to brave the odds. I decided to fill the void by going back to school. Inspired by my mother Beatrice who attained a Bachelor’s degree at the age of 72, I cruised through my Marketing course and then onward to my MBA. It was the most humbling time of my life, to be in class with kids of my children’s age. As if that was not enough, my kids were also in University. I was inspired by my mother to inspire my children, so I set the pace for them. I graduated with a distinction and in the end there was success everywhere. Perseverance is not about avoiding adversity but facing it.
