Today is World Sleep Day! Hands up if you’re as obsessed with baby sleep as I am 🙋🏻♀️
I wanted to share the elements I found as a great guide for figuring out the sweet spot of when to get my kids to sleep so that they had the longest sleep 😴
Is your baby is struggling to fall asleep, waking frequently or taking short naps? If so, it can often be linked to timing and sleep balance during the day ⚖️.
When babies stay awake longer than they can comfortably manage, their bodies release cortisol, a stress hormone that can make it harder for them to settle and stay asleep 🫣.
On the other hand, if they haven’t had enough awake time, they may not have built enough sleep pressure to feel ready for sleep 😬.
Finding the right balance isn’t always easy, and it changes as babies grow. However, using wake windows as a gentle guide, watching for early sleepy cues and adjusting routines gradually can help create smoother bedtimes and more restful sleep.
Every baby is different however, and sleep challenges are incredibly common. And although this works for some babies, it might not work for others. If things feel difficult right now, we see you and you’re 100% not alone.
