What does Affestaa mean? Rolf and J-P

Affestaa is slang from the Frankfurt region. The name of a catholic shrine in Frankfurt’s ancient city walls, was shortened by locals from ‘Affe for Ave Maria and Staat Hess.’ (literal translation: Ape/work for Ave Maria and the State of Hessen) to the Affestaa stone. The area around this section of wall got locally named Affenfeld (Apes/Workers Field) and years later on this site a lunatic asylum

was built. From there the expression ‘Kerle naa,du brings mich noch uff de Affestaa!’ roughly translated as ‘Mate, you’re going to send me to the Affestaa)!’, where Affestaa is the
equivalent to madhouse, was born. Nowadays, sadly, the expression is very rarely used amongst the younger generations in Frankfurt, but our grandmothers often used it at our expense!!! Our Aim:
We would like to share with you our vision of a casual style. When we could only find tee-shirts that we would wear with a bit of customisation, we decided to make our own. The positive feedback we got from friends and strangers alike, made us feel there was other people out there who shared our style. So we decided to create our own brand to bring our style to you. It has always been our dream to be creative and we would like to thank everyone who has helped make it come true.
