Bindinda stands for unique and colourful wool accessories produced on a home knitting machine, ready to brighten up grey winter days, warm you with high quality materials and accompany you for many years; slow fashion and fair production made in Vienna! Bindinda - The word was intuitively created by a two-year old girl to describe the warm and cosy blanket the grandmother hand-knitted for her. The
knitting machine allows to work with very thin wool to create light and delicate pieces, but the making of the patterns, the production on the machine and the finishing of the accessories are not automatised. The materials used, range from pure Merino Wool, to light and soft Italian Merino-Cashmere Wool, up to silky and ecological Alpaca Wool. Salomé started to knit after a complicated knee injury in her childhood, destroyed her dream of becoming a dancer. Since then, knitting has been part of her life, accompanied her during travels, kept her hands busy while listening to university lectures, watching movies and documentaries or lately, nursing her baby girl. She discovered the knitting machine a few years ago, which accelerated the process of knitting and opened up new possibilities. Growing up in an artistic family, colours have accompanied her since birth, and as a cultural anthropologist, Salomé gets her ideas and patterns from colourful textiles from around the world. Salomé has worked in the costume department of film and theatre for many years, before starting as a cultural educator at the Weltmuseum Wien in 2017. During her maternity leave she started to work more intensely on producing knitted accessories for Bindinda.
