Sewing Classes for Summer ☀️👙🍉

Want to sew some summer garments for the warm weather ahead while learning new skills along the way? I’ve got some exciting classes coming up over the next two months!

If you’re new to sewing, the Introduction to Sewing and Zipper Pouch classes are the perfect place to start. Build your skills—and your capsule wardrobe—with all the other classes on offer.

I don’t know about you, but despite the warm weather tempting me out of the studio, I really enjoy sewing this time of year. Maybe it’s the long days, the abundance of natural light, or simply the lively energy drifting through the windows of my new studio.

Either way, I hope to share this season with you in the studio. See link in bio for sign ups.☀️❤️

You don’t need a serger to sew activewear!

Here’s exactly what I use + recommend for stretchy fabrics with Lycra👇🏻

Thread & Needles Matter (A LOT)

• Use stretch thread
→ Maraflex or Seraflex are game changers

• Always use super stretch needles
→ Prevents skipped stitches and fabric damage

• Choose the right needle size:
→ Size 75: thin–medium Lycra
→ Size 90: thicker/heavier Lycra

• Use a narrow zig zag stitch to close seams
→ Allows the fabric to stretch without popping

• Use a 3-step zig zag stitch for a mock flatlock look
→ Great for strength + a more “activewear” finish

• Reduce presser foot pressure
→ Helps fabric feed smoothly

• Sew slowly
→ Less friction = better stitches

• Press your seams after sewing
→ Makes everything look cleaner and more professional

Tip: Always test your stitch on scrap fabric first

Slowing down in activewear🧘🏻‍♀️

I made this set before I left for Tenerife and I was so happy to get so much use out of it when going for walks on the boardwalk, doing Pilates (or just staring at the sea 🤣).

I bought this yummy techno Lycra from and it has a beautiful thickness to it that smooths out all lumps and bumps. It was however a little too warm when temperatures go past 20• so I will try to find a thinner Lycra that still has a good body.

So many exciting techniques involved in making activewear - all done on a household sewing machine. I taught this class before I left and was impressed with the students’ amazing results!

It’s been two weeks since I’ve been back in Vienna, and I’m often asked how my vacation in Tenerife was.🏝️☀️

It was somewhere between a vacation and a workation.

My husband worked full-time there, and I also continued working remotely while trying to recover from a studio move last October that exhausted me more than I expected — mentally, physically, and creatively.

So these two months became something slower:
planning sewing classes, writing handouts, reading, knitting, embroidering, walking, observing, looking at the ocean, and slowly letting my mind quiet down again.

It took one full month before I truly felt rested.
And during the last two weeks, I finally felt excited to come home, work in my studio, and teach again.

So what I learned the most is that rest is part of the creative process✨

Fabric & Co - Tenerife 2026

I thought I would have a chance to go to La Laguna to discover some new fabric stores that recommended but it didn’t work out and so I just visited in Santa Cruz where they usually have more sparkly and I would say a “carnival” selection of fabrics. I did however find a nice lightweight cotton twill that will be perfect to make another pair of my favorite by so I bought 2 meters (115cm wide).

I also stopped in my town’s haberdashery and craft store where they have a great selection of threads and embroidery floss as well as some really nice trim and I found a pretty red/white striped ric rac that I want to incorporate in a sleeveless top. I also found a darning loom which I have been wanting to get and try my hand in darning sweaters, so I bought that too.

I always wash the fabric right away so I can start sewing when I pull it out of my stash and what better place than here to also get the ironing done! ❤️🏝️☀️

I love blouses that have a little ruffle, some gathers or some embroidery detail. Details like these make me feel really comfortable yet special and dressed up.

This is the by I made last year in a straight size 10. I think I would size down by 1 size as it is almost too wide and I would lower the bodice a tiny bit (at least in the front) to level it out. I also will add snaps to the center facing as it doesn’t lay flat (usually the ready to wear versions of these type of blouses don’t have this facing and you can see the skin between the center ties (also maybe not so bad).

✨The Inside Outside Inside Outside Jacket✨

These reversible bomber jackets are perfect for traveling because you literally have two in one! This is my third version already (check my grid to see the other versions) and I don’t think my last.

I hacked the by to make it reversible (pockets on both sides!) and in my workshops we have finished these in one weekend and the results have always been amazing (so many beautiful fabric combinations!)

One side is a faux lace poly blend weave and the other is a loosely woven houndstooth. Which side do you prefer?
