Mekar Yang Diam

Premiering at Dancehouse, Mekar Yang Diam (silent bloom) is a quiet duet shaped by coexistence rather than contact.

Built around two presences sharing the same space, the work explores relation without touch. The bodies move side by side, guided by separate rhythms yet shaped by a similar environment. Distance becomes active, attention becomes spirit, and connection emerges through stillness duration and trust.

Mekar Yang Diam is presented by Lucy Guerin Inc as part of the Naarm/Solo dance exchange 2024-26, presented in collaboration with EkosDance company.

Callan f ) wears a few different things in these photos that were taken back in October:

- Red wool witches hat with matching soft booties (this fabric was woven in Warrnambool woollen mills, long before industry left)

-Soft corset made from heavy English wool that was uncovered in the Fletcher Jones Factory by the community in Warrnambool in around 2012

- Erect codpiece attachment is made from lead grey ‘tropical’ wool, also deadstock of unknown origins.

-The yoked capri pants are made from a silk and linen blended deadstock textile of unknown origins.

Most of the textiles I have in studio are found or discarded. If you like the textile you can talk to me about making any of the cuts you see in the system, in those textiles (providing they’re appropriate for the cut)

Blu in rose-red opera silk gown.
Shot in October last year. This dress is a variation of a wedding dress made in 2023, reimagined in red silk with added accessories.

The last few slides features more shots of Gwyn .faolan in the rave trousers, a navy corset and the rose-red opera silk trucker with legionnaires cape in silk chiffon.

30th Birthday suit for .caszh from earlier this year in February. The outfit constitutes 1) super crispy cotton shirt includes boning, Raglan sleeves and a high grown-on collar 2) Culottes that are two full circles of fine wool houndstooth cloth finished with traditional trouser finishing and 3) one custom 9-inch upright and ready to party codpiece made from fine silk/linen blended pinstripe suiting with a white decorative topstitch. Love you Bryn x thanks for this amazing project.

A little repost of with his suit and shirt that we made in 2019 (I know) for the performance Oliver Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphonie which was held in the Sydney Opera house. Jacob played the ondes martenot with the Sydney symphony orchestra and felt it apt for him to commission this suit for the position.
