As Redfern enters its third month of full operation since our grand opening on the 12th of August, we want to share the story behind our flag. 🏳️
✨ The Story Behind Our Flag ✨
Designed by Elai Kupusili
The Redfern Eco-Tourism Lodge flag is more than just a design — it’s a visual expression of our heritage, created by Elai Kupusili, nephew of owner and Managing Director, Mr. Leslie Tikil. Elai is also a grandson of the two elders whose land Redfern now proudly stands on — land rich in family history, culture, and connection.
In Elai’s own words:
“I was inspired by the Raun Haus, which represents our homes in the village for generations. Our ancestors have been living in traditional raun hauses, including our late grandparents with their children. The two stone axes represent our culture; stone axes were used by our ancestors as a tool for cutting, building, and gardening. The birds represent our late grandparents and loved ones who passed on. As for the 3 stars, they represent nature and God's light that shines in the heavenlies during night time, and Redfern logo."
Each detail in the flag carries deep meaning — a story of village life, ancestral strength, and the continuity of tradition. From the iconic Raun Haus to the birds that honour loved ones who have passed on, Elai’s design reflects our identity, our past, and our hope for the future. 🙏🏽🥰
Flying this flag is an everyday reminder of where we come from — and the legacy we carry forward with pride. 🇵🇬🛖🌿⛰️
