About Boholane

The mission at Boholane is to provide beautiful, affordable, fun, and fashionable pieces for your pleasure and joy while offering work, community, support and fair wages to young Cambodian women.

Boholane initially began in 2017 online, but after a glitch which saw her online store forcibly removed by her web hoster without any explanation, Maaike wondered how to continue her dream of selling beautiful things with character and personality. It didn’t take long to recognise a void for unique, personalized clothing and gifts in her own area of Phnom Penh and in January 2019 Maaike employed two women full time and one part time and took the plunge opening a brick and mortar space.

As an avid thrift shopper and with a growing awareness of the fast fashion industry on her doorstep, Maaike’s vision was of a fun, affordable, magical store, filled with handpicked, barely worn women's and children’s pre loved and upcycled clothing as well as unique hand made new clothes, accessories, homewares and gifts.

With a conviction that everything in life can be restored and that life is meant to be made beautiful, Maaike is passionate and committed to repurposing and recycling things that may otherwise be overlooked. She has a personal love for all things boho and vintage, colorful and creative. All her beautiful discoveries as well as unique designs will be available in the store’s ever-changing inventory.

At Boholane we understand that each person and each body is unique and we all want to feel comfortable and look great. For an additional fee we can alter your clothes so you can have them fitted exactly to your unique shape. Excitingly, we also offer a tailoring service for unique personalized clothing you design yourself. Bring in your own fabric and designs or choose from our offerings in store. The possibilities are endless!

Very recently, Boholane designed and launched their online tailoring order form and now this hand made slow fashion tailoring option is available to others living outside of Phnom Penh.

Maaike works personally alongside her Cambodian staff to encourage them to peruse their talents and celebrate their skills. We are committed to fair wages and work practices and to providing an enjoyable and personalized work environment for our staff.
