For too long, many of us were taught that love equals self-sacrifice, and that being chosen validates our worth.

But as more women step into alignment, we realise that love that costs your peace isn’t love, it’s a pattern. When you outgrow codependency and validation-seeking, independence stops being ‘embarrassing’. It becomes empowering.
You stop performing for approval and start practising self-respect as your baseline.

This post is inspired by British Vogue’s latest statement on whether having a boyfriend is embarrassing. And no, having a boyfriend isn’t embarrassing. Losing yourself in one is.

The hard truth about self-love?
It’s not all bubble baths, journaling, or soft affirmations.
Sometimes it’s setting boundaries that disappoint people.
Sometimes it’s distance. Discipline.
Sometimes it’s sitting with the parts of yourself you’ve avoided and choosing to face them with compassion instead of criticism.
Self-love isn’t always self-care.
It’s self-confrontation.
It’s doing what your future self will thank you for even when your present self resists it.
Real self-love isn’t about becoming perfect.
It’s about unlearning why you ever believed you had to earn your own worth in the first place.
That’s where healing starts.
Not in perfection but in honesty.
