This yellow dress was the design plan for a “sister of the bride“ I used a light weight taffeta and infused it with a woven interfacing to give the fullness like the dress in the picture, as we were unable to find the heavier weight fabric.
The final result looked so beautiful on, which my dress model does not really show.

Altering a bridal gown is a very intricate specific job.
Here is a bridal gown that is 2 sizes too big in the bodice.
I have unpicked the boning which sits under the bust. Taken 5cm in through the centre front and pinned the side seams to the correct measurement ready to sew.
This bust will be need smaller bra cups to fit.
After the bodice has been adjusted to fit, the side seams of the skirt will need to be altered to fit the bodice.
There are 6 layers in the skirt.
This is why it is important to have a trained bridal gown dressmaker to do your alterations.

This beautiful gown has a gorgeous lace edge and many lace motifs surrounding the tulle hem. The problem being the gown was 10cm too long, so it involved unpicking the lace motifs, recutting the tulle hem and replacing the lace correctly around the skirt... many hours latter we have a perfectly fitting dress.
The bust was also reshaped to fit and a bustle was added for comfort at the reception.

Readjusting the fit on this beautiful beaded gown.
The side seams are pinned ready to take in. The bust is also too big in the bra cup. I am able to resize down with careful hand stitching the lace and repositioning the beading..

Altering bridal gowns is something I ❣️ to do. This year I had planned a new adventure away from bridal gowns, however, I am back in my studio 🥰
This beautiful gown has been hemmed at the front, a bustle added at the back along with delicate shoulder straps added. The centre front tulle panel has also had lace motifs placed for more modesty.
