YOU’VE SEEN THE DRESSES—NOW HERE’S THE REAL STORY BEHIND ZIGGY…
I’m often asked, “Where do you find all these beautiful dresses?”
What many people don’t realise is that they aren’t dresses I’ve simply sourced from another label and hung on the racks—all the dresses you see at Ziggy are designed by me.
I’m Atherton born and raised, and so much of what you see at Ziggy comes from the things I grew up surrounded by.
My parents owned their nursery for over 40 years in Atherton, so flowers, colour and creativity were a big part of my childhood. Mum adored flowers, and her love of bold colours and beautiful florals was definitely instilled in me. That influence still appears in the prints, colours and little details I choose for my dresses today.
The peacock feather in the Ziggy branding has a very personal connection to Dad. When we were young, his mother always had peacock feathers displayed throughout her home, with peacocks wandering around the backyard. Those memories have stayed with me, and whenever I see a peacock feather, I immediately think of Dad. To me, it represents love, memories and good luck—which is why I chose to make it such a special part of Ziggy.
Without really planning it, all those things I loved growing up—the flowers, colours, peacocks and creativity—eventually found their way into my designs and became part of Ziggy’s story.
Designing a dress takes much longer than most people probably imagine. The shape, fabric, colours and little details all need to work together, and sometimes several things go wrong before the design finally feels right.
Because every dress is handmade, new designs can’t simply appear on the racks overnight. Each one takes time, patience and plenty of changes along the way. It has taken years of trial and error to create the Ziggy dress collection you see today.
I don’t design every piece in the shop, but everything else is personally selected by me, often from other small businesses. I’m always looking for pieces with colour, personality and something a little unusual—the beautiful things you don’t find in every other shop.
Once you know the story, you’ll start noticing little pieces of it everywhere—the florals from Mum, the peacocks that remind me of Dad, the bold colours, the Ziggy dress designs and all the unique treasures I’ve discovered along the way.
Ziggy was never meant to look or feel like every other shop. It’s colourful, a little eclectic and full of personality, with a story tucked into almost every corner.
I truly hope you enjoy discovering and wearing my designs as much as I enjoy bringing them to life.
