It’s been another busy and wonderful year! After welcoming my 4th daughter in April I have been able to work with some absolutely wonderful clients and help make their dress dreams come true. None of it would have been possible if not for my family and friends who have always been willing to help with my girls so I can sneak off for some sewing, I honestly cannot thank you all enough.

However you choose to celebrate the new year, I hope it’s amazing!

This latest creation has been a few years in the making, and it’s so special to finally see it walk down the aisle!

I’ve known the bride for over a decade, so it was such an honour when she asked me to do the alterations for her wedding dress. After a few busy years for the happy couple, the big day finally arrived — and I got to bring her vision to life.

What started as a few small adjustments became a stunning A-line skirt with a thigh-high slit (and yes, pockets!). I also created her veil, featuring a delicate hand-embroidered gold heart design.

I recently came across a video where a devastated bride-to-be found her dream dress, spent $10,000 on it and was now facing $4000 worth of alterations costs as her dress doesn’t fit. While every situation is unique and we don’t know all the details it inspired me to share some tips that might help you avoid similar stress when finding your dream dress:

💖 Order early
Give yourself time! Wedding dresses take months to arrive, and that’s before alterations. Allow at least 8 months before your wedding to order your dress.

💖 Do your homework
Before your appointment, research styles you like and bring inspiration photos to help your consultant understand your vision.

💖 Choose your entourage wisely
Bringing too many people can lead to overwhelming opinions - and many boutiques have space limits. Keep it small and supportive.

💖Budget for alterations
Even if the boutique takes your measurements, dresses are usually ordered in the closest standard size—not custom-fit—so alterations are nearly always needed. Plan for this in your dress budget.

💖 Double-check your measurements
If you’ve found the one and are having your measurements taken, review and sign off on your measurements with your consultant. This helps ensure accountability on both sides.

💖Plan ahead for custom changes
Thinking of changing the zipper to a corset back, adding sleeves, or lining sheer panels? Ask the store if the designer can supply extra fabric when you place your order.

💖 Be cautious buying online
Fast fashion sites (like Shein) often use photos from real designers—but the dress you get may look nothing like the photo. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Check reviews and trust your gut!

💖 Budget dress does not equal budget alterations
Don’t assume a less expensive dress will cost less to alter. Intricate alterations take the same amount of work, no matter the dress price.

Shopping for your wedding dress should be a special memory, not a stressful one. Take your time, ask questions and advocate for yourself.

✨ Taking a Little Break ✨
