March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month.
Did you know:
👩🏼🤝👨🏾Cerebral palsy is one of the most common childhood disorders and the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disability, although it is not progressive.
🤱Risk factors include antenatal infection (such as CMV), oxygen deprivation (HIE), severe jaundice, Rh incompatibility, trauma to the brain (including haemorrhages and other types of stroke) during or shortly after birth.
🧠 The risk of developing cerebral palsy increases from 0.1% in term births to 10% in babies who were born at less than 28 weeks gestation.
🌎 Over 17 million people live with cerebral palsy world wide.
🧏🏻♂️ People living with cerebral palsy are more likely to have other impairments or neurodiversity. This includes learning difficulties, autism, hearing loss or speech conditions, although this is not true for all people living with cerebral palsy.
The Cerebral Palsy Alliance provides family-centred therapies, life skills programs, equipment and support for people and their families living with cerebral palsy and other neurological and physical disabilities.
This March, 50c from every scrunchie sold will be donated to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance to continue the important work that they do throughout Australia.
