The kilts we make in Australia are entirely hand sewn, each one takes between 8 and 10 hours, the only machine stitching is the first layer of the band and the straps on the fringe side.
This is a totally different product to a machine sewn kilt or a top stitched kilt.
The machine sewn kilts we offer on our website are expertly made by St Kilda in Scotland, the stitching is hidden, by using a special process, so the average eye would no notice the difference.
The third option is top stitched, so you can see the stitches down each side of the pleat, fantastic for a cheaper option and can be made by Karen
Beware kilts made with a label that says hand finished, it is probably a machine sewn kilt with the makers label sewn on by hand.
All three options are acceptable, but if you want it to be a garment that lasts you for life, why not just spend the extra and get the real deal, a hand sewn 8 yard kilt.
