Breastfeeding Baby Number 2 š©µ
You all seemed to connect with my first breastfeeding story, so letās continue with baby boy number two ā Harvey.
Harvey was my b**bie baby š He LOVED the b**b the most out of all three boys.
From the beginning, though, we had similar problems. He wasnāt gaining enough weight and after multiple midwife and GP visits, I was convinced he had a tongue tie like his older brother.
This time I pushed for a referral to have it corrected. It took weeks to see a specialist, but I was determined to keep going because I desperately wanted to breastfeed for longer this time.
So out came the pump!
For around 3ā4 weeks I pumped and bottle-fed while still putting him on the b**b so he wouldnāt become reliant on the bottle.
And finallyā¦ he started gaining weight š The relief was HUGE.
At around five weeks old, his tongue tie was snipped and he latched straight away. From then on, he was one happy little b**bie baby. š©µ
I went back to work when Harvey was only three months old. Thankfully, I had my own little office and a supportive boss, so I continued pumping at work and breastfeeding morning and night.
We made it to 7 months. š„¹
After only making it eight weeks with my first baby, seven months felt like such a massive achievement. I was so proud of myself and little Harv. I had been determined to breastfeed him, and despite all the pumping, appointments and worry, we did it.
Eventually it became harder to keep up, so we switched to formula ā which came with challenges of its own! Harvey was a very refluxy baby, so there were more GP visits, infant Gaviscon and a couple of different formulas before we found what worked.
Eventually he was eating enough that the formula disappeared too, and that chapter was over. š„¹
Every breastfeeding journey is different, and every milestone deserves to be celebrated ā whether itās one feed, eight weeks, seven months or two years. š©µ
