An offcut from a chenille bedspread and a vintage sewing pattern = a new dressing gown for my 5yo granddaughter. This chenille is so soft and cuddly and perfect for a little girl who is obsessed with fabric. Margaux had well and truly outgrown her other dressing gown that was made years ago by my Mum for Margaux’s older sister.

It’s been a while since I sewed a garment from start to finish in one sitting and I really enjoyed the process.

The pattern was Size 5 and I made it with no alterations. The finished garment is a bit big and will probably see her through several winters. Yay!!

The simple pleasures of life…. sewing for a loved one, reusing fabric that’s much too good for the bin, and reliving habits taught to me by my mum who demonstrated the true value of a great upcycle!

Our largest lighting project yet! And here the pendants are installed in a new building in a private school. You may remember the photos of these lined up on the driveway. All 31 of them. What a job. So many moving parts to get this over the line!

Fresh off the work table. We are making a number of these custom pendants for a Brisbane Thai restaurant. This fabric was chosen by the designer from our stock. It’s called Pimalai. Doesn’t the gold fringing really complete the look?

Rachael came to us looking for help to revive this vintage lamp made by her deceased grandfather. It was in a pretty sorry state with one of the sails destroyed by the heat of an unsuitable bulb. Apart from that, it was very “off course”…..tired, dusty and in dire need of a some time in the dry dock to get it ship shape!

We replaced both the sails with new parchment and dark leather thonging. We had to trace a pattern for each sail and punch all those holes in the same places so that we could put it all back together. I gave the timber section a good clean and reattached the felt on the bottom.

Look at her now!!! (Why are boats always referred to as female?) She is ready to set sail again and chart a new course. I love restoring items of sentimental value. This lamp is beautifully crafted and it is great that it can shine again. ❤️❤️
