Curious Kind is an Australian business run by me, Libby Westera. I have a great appreciation for nature and have become really aware of the devastating impact that fast fashion and our current consumption of clothing is having on the environment and people. So I've set out to find a better way! Imagine if we could start from birth and our children only knew clothing as something that is part of a

circular system. Where knowing what to do with our used clothing was as easy as knowing where to buy more.... It is possible!⁠ I am so happy to have you on this journey with me!

Just a little PSA and gentle reminder to check the returns policy of both online and in store retailers while shopping this festive season. Many are getting better at this but I did notice particularly in the Black Friday sales that some businesses stated 'sale items can not be returned or exchanged'. Be careful with this because obviously sale prices tend to induce impulse buying and the inability to return those impulse buys inevitably leads to lots of waste.

I guess that first thing to get a handle on is our tendencies to impulse buy. But in addition to dealing with that deep-rooted habit, make sure that you can return things, preferably for a refund (not just exchange). There is so much waste at Christmas time even without the unwanted or ill-fitting gifts.

Or as an alternative gift vouchers are also a great gift idea!

🎁 F-U-R-O W H A T?? 🎁

Have you heard of Furoshiki yet? Also known as fabric gift wrapping.

Personally, this is one trend that I hope takes off. You buy quality fabric, wrap your presents in it over and over again and it lasts generations, not minutes. Plus it also looks absolutely beautiful and you can adorn your gifts in really cool ways.

It kills me to see all of the paper going to waste at Christmas time, and all of the gift bags that get thrown out after just one use! I tend not to buy it, but the kids do love physically unwrapping gifts. So this year, I'm getting on board.

Tell me, would you be happy to receive a gift wrapped like this, and would you ever be likely to invest in fabric pieces for wrapping?

There are some really cool little businesses offering this now, or you can make your own if you're able to sew a straight line on a sewing machine.

It was our pooch's first birthday last week. Never ever thought I could love a pet as much as the kids, but here we are. Our fur baby Rosie completes our family in the most fabulous way.

She is the accidental catalyst for many of our best outdoor adventures. She is the best company, so full of love and so loved by all of us. Kids and puppies can be a lot of work, but in my opinion, absolutely worth it. 🐶

I'm not what you'd call super Christmassy in the way of gift buying. I find it stressful, wasteful and really time consuming. Yerrrrp, I'm a grinch...

This year I've turned a bit of a new leaf though. I've been organised (that has helped A LOT), I've been realistic about who I really need to buy for, I'm only buying us things that we need either now or very soon and I'm shopping small as much as possible. It feels good.

However, when it comes to Christmas, what I can always get on board with is amazing company and wonderful food....Who's with me!?

I gotta say, my level of conscious shopping is really evolving this year just like many of you. I do love to research so I'm loving finding out about local brands, what makes them tick and the people behind them.

Along with supporting small and local my other hack this Christmas has been to buy us all things we needed anyway. Either now or in the very near future. Even Santa is getting them something practical. I've realised that the kids are stoked just to unwrap anything as a present and I wonder if its given to them on a special occasion will they see these everyday items as special and something to love and look after (here's hoping! 🤞)?

In saying that, they will be getting one toy each and I'm pleased to report that I managed to pick up one of the toys secondhand from Marketplace 🙌.

A wardrobe staple for every kid from age 0 to 2. Why?

At age 0 the clips help keep the tummy covered and acts as an easy base layer for any outift.

By age 2 when any kind of pants become a battle at least they can leave the house and still look pretty dang cute ❤️

We had a serious pants-hater in household until recently. I'm so glad that stage is over 😅.

We are loving this dress from in our household. It is so comfy and so cute. It's featured pretty heavily in our socials because both of my girls wear the same dress!

Maddie is 5 and is wearing the size 4-5 years. It fits beautifully and is a great length. When Sophia who is almost 3 wears it, the slightly oversized look is absolutely beautiful and you would never know. This is the really great thing about ethical and sustainable brands. The designs are made to stand the test of time and the organic cotton fabrics holds up to lots of washing.

This dress has been really popular and we are almost sold out. We also have it available in the gorgeous white posy floral print which has a beautiful vintage vibe. I have never know jersey fabric clothing to be so versatile for all sorts of adventures and events. So beautiful. x
