Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the transience of things, how the old gives way for the new to grow. But I’ve also been questioning whether that’s always a good thing. In a world so focused on the new, we often forget the quiet beauty of what already exists.
That’s why I find the work of so inspiring. She reminds us that there’s beauty in repair, in giving worn objects a second life. In her hands, the old becomes art, the unusable is transformed into a statement piece. It’s a powerful reminder that not everything needs to be discarded. Sometimes, it just needs care.
Our society forgot that this used to be the norm. We’ve become a culture of disposables, where value is too often tied to novelty.
So when I heard Minttu had published her book, The Art of Knitting Repair, I was over the moon! This is not just mending for the sake of function, it’s about transforming your garments, letting them evolve into something even more beautiful and unique through the process of repair.
Congratulations on your publication, Minttu! I’m sure your book will inspire many and be a great success.

🌿 I recently inherited an incredible garden—over 100 pots full of beautiful, mysterious plants I knew nothing about. I never had the chance to be close to nature before, or the space to care for it. So gardening? That was all new to me.

But something shifted. I bought a plant ID app, and spent days learning how to take care of each plant—grouping them by sunlight needs and watering schedules. I even created a full schematic of the patio and tracked the sun hour by hour for two days straight, just to make sure each plant had the best spot.

After the cyclone, many plants were left beaten. Some didn’t make it. The rest? I honestly didn’t think they’d survive.

Today, though… I walked outside and was greeted with a few small miracles—green, thriving, and alive. And something bloomed inside me too.

I think I might be falling for gardening. It’s a lot of work—but this kind of happiness is something I’ve never felt before.

Right now, I’m working on my next blanket from , while is curled up by the window, happily napping on the . I’m surrounded by yarn, plants, and peace… and I feel grounded, joyful, and more myself than I’ve felt in a long time. 🍀🐱💚

🌪️ Facing Cyclone Alfred 🌊

Life has a way of reminding us how small we are in the face of nature—how our worries and schedules mean nothing to forces beyond our control. In a few hours, I’ll be meeting one of those forces head-on.

I won’t lie—I’m scared. I’ve never been through a cyclone before. Cyclone Alfred is set to make landfall exactly where we live. My husband and I are racing against the clock to secure everything, but it’s heartbreaking to think that everything we’ve worked so hard to build since immigrating could be lost. The thought of starting over again—after already leaving everything behind when we came to Australia—is heavy.

Still, we’re staying (unless directed otherwise). We’ll hold our fort, stay safe, and face whatever comes. We may emerge with scars, but we will emerge stronger. Things can be replaced—what matters most is our safety.

And yes—I’ve already packed the essentials. My knitting needles and a few projects are safely tucked away in the safe room. If we’re going to ride out Cyclone Alfred, I’m doing it with yarn in hand.

To all my friends in the affected areas—stay strong, stay safe. I’m sending all my love and hoping you come through this with as little damage as possible.

See you on the other side. 💙

I love colour! I love mixing shades and discovering the wonderful combinations they create. My passion led me to study it in depth, and right now, I’m reading Interaction of Color by Josef Albers. It explores how colours influence each other when placed in different contexts, showing that colour perception is relative—shaped by surrounding hues, lighting, and the viewer’s perspective.
For instance, a grey square on a bright yellow background appears darker and cooler, while the same grey on a dark blue background seems lighter and warmer—even though the grey itself hasn’t changed. This illustrates how our perception of colour is constantly shifting.
This concept applies to knitting too. Understanding how colours interact helps us choose combinations that elevate a design—and even use that knowledge to our advantage. A perfect example is Kate Dryberg’s ( ) “Hip to Be Square” pattern, which is available for free on the website. While the design itself is striking even in one colour, Sabine (.knit) takes it to another level with her exceptional use of colour. Her thoughtful combinations and attention to detail make the simple entrelac structure feel fresh and harmonious. Isn’t it amazing how colour can transform a piece—sometimes so much that it’s hard to recognise it’s the same design?
That’s the magic of colour!

I thrive when I work with things outside my comfort zone.🍀 In fact, my best works so far have come from exploring the unfamiliar. Today, I’m starting a new creative process, using a fibre I don’t usually work with and colors that feel completely new to me. And I love it! 🧡💛
There’s something exciting about the unknown— that slight discomfort that, little by little, becomes part of my creative language. But before I dive in, today is all about organization. Sorting colors, fibres, and ideas— because inspiration is flowing, but I can’t quite see the full picture yet. 🍂🧶
This step is essential: turning many little inspirations into something real, something tangible. Let’s see where this journey leads! 🌿🤎
Thanks, , for being part of the journey! 🧶✨

Have you ever loved art but thought you weren’t talented enough to do it?
Since I was young, I loved drawing. I was terrible at it, but I’d spend hours sketching trees or a smiling planet Earth—and then try to sell them to my family. Clearly, I had a knack for business, but not so much for art.
For years, I believed that being an artist was something you had to be born with, that it couldn’t be learned like math or a language. It took me decades to realize that drawing can be taught, and another decade to finally pursue it.
At the end of 2023, with my husband’s encouragement, I started looking into university courses—but quickly realized they weren’t what I wanted. Many programs didn’t actually teach fine arts from the ground up; they focused on refining what students already had. The idea that learning the fundamentals would somehow take away artistic “je ne sais quoi” made no sense to me! How can you reach your full potential without deep knowledge of your craft?
I wanted to learn like the Old Masters, and I finally found a serious online course that teaches just that. And let me tell you—it’s hard work. It’s frustrating to look at an image and struggle to replicate it. But then I remind myself: learning the alphabet was frustrating too, until one day, I could form words.
And the other day? I think I formed my first “word” in art—and it felt exhilarating! ✨ This is one of my first drawings I’m truly proud of, and I wanted to share it with you, just like a child excited to show their first masterpiece.
So, if you think art (or anything creative—painting, knitting, music, writing) depends on talent, I’ll tell you this: with determination, patience, and practice, the only thing standing in your way is you.
🎨✨

✨ I used to hang out every week at this amazing spot surrounded by an inspiring group of creative people, where we’d share ideas, collaborate, and sometimes even challenge each other to think differently. This egg cosy was one of those ideas—fun, quirky, and definitely outside the box!
I decided to go bold and use thick yarn for such a tiny, delicate thing. 🥚 I imagined it sitting at a fancy ski resort, all snug and warm, almost too cozy to move! ❄️ The idea didn’t go ahead (the logistics and cost didn’t quite add up), but seeing this little piece still makes me smile. It reminds me of the joy of creating, experimenting, and simply letting your imagination play. I hope it makes you smile too. 😊💛This will soon be published, who knows, maybe some fellow knitter would be interested in.

Starting Fresh This Week! 🌿
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I spent mine enjoying my garden—still figuring out what’s what and learning how to care for everything. It’s such a relaxing process! Today, I’m back to my blanket projects from , trying out two samples of each yarn as I decide between small or big squares for the final design.
While on the topic of cozy projects, I wanted to share the Taipale Socks by Ronja Hakalehto from Finnish Knits special issue. These beautiful socks combine retro colors inspired by Finnish nature with traditional Finnish colorwork patterns. Aren’t they lovely? 🧦✨
What’s on your needles this week? Let me know in the comments! 💬

🌿 Welcome to my new creative space 🌿
This little studio feels like a quiet retreat, bringing me closer to nature. It’s a simple joy—one that fills me with gratitude and inspiration as I work.

For the cardigan design from my previous post, I started by making lots of crochet squares—testing different colours and sizes. 🧶✨ These small experiments helped me figure out the perfect yoke circumference for each size. My first idea was to create baby sizes, but the squares had their own say! Isn’t it beautiful how creativity has a way of guiding us where we least expect? 🌸 So, I adjusted my plan and shifted to children’s sizes instead.

I’m working with Ultra Pima in Fine, and it’s been a dream to crochet with. The texture and colour are so beautiful—it’s one of those yarns that makes every stitch so well-defined and feel special.

As I work, I listen to lo-fi music in the background. 🎶 There’s something magical about those calming beats that pair so well with creating. What about you? Do you listen to music while making art, or do you prefer silence?

Thanks for being here and sharing this journey with me. 🌿
