It was an institution in the 1950’s bringing locals and travelers together over hearty meals and good ol' fashion service. This legacy has been resurrected in the form of a unique urban space; aptly named California Lane. The design incorporates retro elements from the nostalgic years of California. Think neon signs, pastel walls and artwork: Cali Laneito be a place of discovery and we hate to say it but you’re probably going to see it on Instagram....

Just over a week to go to our next exciting event - The Record & CD Fair

BIGSOUND 2026 Welcomes the official California Lane CD & Record Fair in Fortitude Valley.⁠

Fortitude Valley will become a destination for music lovers during BIGSOUND 2026 as California Lane and Glitter Records present the official California Lane CD & Record Fair with two days of vinyl, CDs, crate digging and Brisbane music history.⁠

Part of the official BIGSOUND 2026 program, the fair will take place on Wednesday 2 September and Thursday 3 September 2026 from 9.30am to 3.30pm. ⁠

Entry is free and open to BIGSOUND delegates and the public. The event will feature independent record sellers including Beat Market and Sacred Crates, offering vinyl records, CDs and collectable releases. Glitter Records will host a special open-air $5 CD Rummage Sale, with more than 4,000 CDs available to browse, alongside its full range of vinyl, CDs and collectables in store.⁠

Historian and author Robert Allen will lead Fortitude Valley Music History Walking Tours across both days, sharing stories of the venues, artists and communities that helped shape Brisbane’s iconic music precinct. The California Lane CD & Record Fair celebrates Brisbane’s music history and the enduring appeal of vinyl and CDs as part of BIGSOUND 2026.⁠

IT’S TOMORROW! 📚
Tomorrow California Lane gets taken over by books.

We’ve got 12 local authors and bookish vendors joining us for The Lanes Book Fair, with books spanning dark romance, sci-fi, urban fantasy, contemporary women’s fiction and more.

Meet the authors, discover their books, get a book signed and maybe even get inspired to write a story of your own.

There’ll also be two live panel discussions for anyone who loves books, or has ever thought about writing one.

🕦10.30am–11.30am 📖 How the Story Goes K.E. Barden, Allison Andrews and H.M. Hodgson explore inspiration and the
experience of crafting a story.

🕧12.30pm–1.30pm ✍️ The Publishing Journey A conversation about going from the first idea to publication, featuring both traditionally published and self-published authors.
