Some good news from the EU to reduce textile waste and our impacts on the planet!

The fashion industry's dirty secret is finally out—and it's illegal now.

For years, luxury brands burned or shredded unsold clothes to keep their prices high. Not because the items were damaged, but because scarcity drives value. The result? Up to 600,000 tonnes of textile waste in Europe alone, and emissions equivalent to Sweden's annual carbon footprint.

The EU said enough. As of July 2026, destruction is banned. Large companies must donate, resell, or recycle. Medium businesses get until 2030 to comply. Only damaged, unsafe, or counterfeit items can be destroyed—and even then, companies must justify it.

Some brands are unhappy. Others are already scrambling to redesign their supply chains. But for the planet, this is a shift worth celebrating.

The pile of unsold clothes is shrinking. And the law is making sure it stays that way. ♻️👗
