CLOSED FOR ANZAC DAY - Saturday 25th April

It’s always an honour restoring slouch hats, and learning the stories of those who’ve worn them.

This one is the last major job for the season, ready to post home for next Saturday’s service. There’s still time to swing by for a brush and a steam to make sure you’re gleaming at dawn though, so come on by if you need.

I’ve been lucky enough over the years to have found not only original spools of 1940s khaki linen threads, but also some rolls of Australian made binding ribbons to keep it all in the family…

Now that’s a BIG hat…

I love a request like this that pushes me to think outside the box and gives an opportunity to be really creative with how I tackle challenges.

What we started with is an Overflow (more in stock after Easter!) which already had a 10cm/4inch brim, but the challenge was to make it the ultimate golf hat.

1.5 inch leather brim extension - 3.5mm cattle leather skived down so the the top edge is flush with the felt brim, with a 1 inch overlap on the underside so that it’s super secure and won’t droop/warp over time. Punched and stitched by hand.

Extra, larger eyelets, backed in mesh to allow greater airflow but less light through.

AND added an easy access size adjuster by piercing the sweatband and threading a leather lace throughout, that can be tightened while still being warn via the extra eyelet at the very back of the hat.

A bloody big hat and a very happy golfer 🏌️

New stock of the Overflow is in transit, in Black, Oat and Donkey, if you’d like one too. Even if you don’t need all the extras…

Only the best for Grandad’s hat.
Especially when a wayward pup wants in on the action.

This one took a few good hours to get right, but she’ll be on her way back to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow.

As always with the sentimental repairs that I take on, I could not be more grateful for the trust of those who just want to see their keepsake and heirloom brought back to glory.
