A photograph can tell a thousand words, and this one captures the calm, gentle nature of our macho male, Eyes Light Up (aka Invincible), beautifully.

It turns out that Invincible isn’t just a gentleman, he enjoys the limelight too 🥰 While some alpacas shy away from attention, Invincible seemed more than happy to strike a pose and soak up the admiration.

There is something special about a crisp Ballarat morning, watching alpacas step confidently into the show ring. This weekend, four of our boys did just that, returning home with three Championships and a Supreme Champion (Best in Show).

For us, these results are about more than ribbons. They reflect years of careful breeding, with Judge Wendy Billington recognising the fleece weight and uniformity that are at the heart of our breeding program.

Ballarat certainly lived up to its reputation for cold weather, but wrapped in alpaca socks, a jumper, scarf and gloves from our farm shop, I was warm all day. There’s no better reminder of why we love this incredible fibre and enjoy sharing it with others.

Congratulations to first-time convenor Marie Bis on a wonderful show, and thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat.

From the high plains of Peru 🇵🇪 to the paddocks of Australia 🇦🇺

The first photograph was taken at Estancia Accoyo in Peru, where Ron stands with Don Julio Barreda and the remarkable Accoyo Rasputin.

The second shows Rasputin in Australia at 10 years of age, a magnificent macho whose influence still runs through our breeding program nearly 20 years after his passing.

Some genetics stand the test of time, a very special few leave a legacy.

Thank you, Ron, for your vision in bringing these extraordinary Accoyo bloodlines to Australia and for your unwavering commitment to the Australian alpaca industry over the past 37 years.

Behind every great legacy is someone who had the courage to believe in it first.

Did you know black alpacas are among the rarest alpacas in the world? 🖤

For centuries, black alpacas were highly prized by the ancient Incas. However, when Spanish settlers arrived in Peru, white fibre became far more desirable because it could be dyed any colour. Over time, black alpacas became increasingly uncommon, with their numbers declining dramatically.

Today, naturally black fleece remains one of the rarest and most striking colours in the alpaca world. No dye—just exceptional genetics and generations of careful breeding.
