Hot take: Colour doesn't matter as much as you think. 🔥

You can get navy, black, grey, even hi-vis yellow, But if the fabric doesn't breathe, the fit restricts movement, or it falls apart after 10 washes...

Does the colour even matter?

We've seen crews in mismatched gear that lasts 2+ years.
And crews in "perfect" colour-matched uniforms that fall apart in 3 months.

Priorities, people. 😅

3 fabric hacks that'll change how you shop for workwear

Hack #1: The Stretch Test
Pull the fabric sideways, if it snaps back instantly = good, if it stays stretched = keep looking.

Hack #2: The Breathability Check
Hold it up to light, if you can see tiny gaps in the weave = it'll breathe, solid wall of fabric = you'll sweat.

Hack #3: The Wash Test
Check the care label, if it says "cold wash only" = high maintenance, "machine wash warm" = built for real life.

King Gee's workcool technology passes all three with flying colours.

Did you know that your workwear uniforms are made from pre-shrunk fabric?

Unlike regular clothes, quality workwear is pre-shrunk during manufacturing so it maintains its fit and compliance standards wash after wash.

This matters because:
1. Your hi-vis stays true to size (critical for safety standards)
2. Reinforced knee pads stay positioned correctly
3. Reflective tape doesn't distort or crack from fabric tension
4. You're not constantly replacing "shrunken" gear

Regular fashion cotton can shrink 5-10%, workwear grade fabric typically less than 3% shrinkage.

Pre-shrunk fabrics ensure the garment's fit, colour and safety standards remain locked in, wash after wash.

We got an email last month that kind of stopped us in our tracks.

Subject line said "your workwear saved my job." we opened it half-expecting a complaint. instead it was from a site supervisor, one of his crew slipped on wet steel, reinforced knee pads took the impact, walked away with bruised pride instead of a broken knee. He ended it with: "you're not just selling clothes. you're selling safety."

we sat with that for a while, we've always been careful about what we stock testing everything, turning things down if they don't hold up, but that email made it feel more concrete. Every order is someone heading out to a real site, in real conditions and that's not something we take lightly.

what's the one piece of gear that's genuinely kept you safe? 👇

Do us a favour, go grab your Hi-vis and actually look at it

Is the colour still bright or has it gone a bit dull? is the reflective tape starting to crack or peel? can you still find the AS/NZS 4602.1 certification tag? been wearing and washing it for six months or more?

If any of those landed , it's probably not doing its job anymore and on a busy site, that gap between looking safe and actually being safe is the part that matters.

Real Hi-vis holds up after 30+ washes, reflects properly at night, and carries the certification to back it up not just on day one.

be honest, when did you last actually check yours? drop "this week", "this month", or "uhh…" below 👇

Okay, we need to confess something.

We almost didn't stock Hard Yakka, when we first saw their range, we thought: "Nice, but will it actually last?"

So we did what we always do, we tested it. 3 months, multiple washes, real sites, real conditions.

Result? We were wrong, and we're glad we were.

This range has become one of our most-reordered. Not because of fancy marketing, because it just works.

Lesson learned: Never judge workwear by the catalog photo.

Sam a Civil Contractor said and I qoute; "I bought these for winter site work. Didn't expect much. Been wearing them 3 weeks straight."

This is the kind of feedback we save, not the five star review that sounds like marketing copy. The real stuff from people who wear this gear through actual 12-hour shifts, in actual Australian conditions.

Sam's talking about the King Gee Workcool pants. They're not the flashiest range we stock. But they're the ones people keep coming back for because they handle cold mornings, hot afternoons, and everything in between without falling apart.

What's one piece of workwear that surprised you this year? The one you didn't expect to love but now can't live without?

Cold mornings, damp sites, layers that bulk.

Winter workwear isn't about piling on. It's about smart layers that move, breathe, and don't trap sweat.

Here's the reality: cotton feels fine at 7 AM, but once you start working and sweating, it stays wet. And wet fabric in winter = cold, uncomfortable shifts.

The fix?
1. Base layer: Moisture-wicking tee (merino or synthetic blend)
2. Mid layer: Lightweight fleece or softshell (traps heat, not sweat)
3. Outer layer: Wind-resistant shell (blocks chill, still breathes)

Skip the cotton. Your body will thank you by 3 PM.

June's here.

We're not changing what works: only stocking gear that gets re-ordered, not returned.

This month's focus: durability that survives actual Australian conditions. Not just looking good in photos, but holding up through dust, rain, 40degrees heat, and everything in between.

We've seen too many brands promise the world and fall apart after two washes. That's not happening here. If it doesn't pass the real-world test, we don't list it.

What's the first thing you check when buying new workwear? Price? Brand? Fabric? Tell us what matters to you.

May's done and looking back, three ranges carried the month.

👌Biz Collection kept showing up for anyone who needed to look the part without overthinking it.

👌King Gee work-cool got people through some seriously rough days outside.

👌Chef Works just kept surviving shift after shift, wash after wash, still going strong.

Different jobs, different environments, same result; gear that didn't let people down when it mattered
that's the kind of thing we want to keep stocking and honestly, the reorder numbers say it better than we can.
