In 2025, our societies, our beliefs, our systems, everything is changing around us.
So much.
So quickly.
Expansion and growth are the core language of life.
And when life changes and expands, You pause and listen.
And you grow with it.

MaWi Australia slowed down many months ago, when life showed me a different path and kept taking me on.

So… I took a big leap of faith, sat with my partner, and with his full support, went back to studying what looks like I’ve always known…

MaWi Australia is one of my greatest creations, I am very proud of having been able to create from ground zero to a beautiful business, an idea that lighted on in me at the end of the darkest time of my life as a mum.

Yet… It was only a lesson towards the next step of life.

MaWi Australia taught me determination and humility, excitement and pride.
Working with my hands, with the most natural materials and the smell and earthy feel of natural sheep wool, grounded me to the simple work of sewing, making and waving like my women ancestors.

I am and will be forever proud of the Malo Bag, the Mini-Wi and the Woolchill’d that are now in many households around Australia, France and even the US, because they are fruits of my imagination and are all born from my hands.

Yet… MaWi Australia was only a lesson towards the next step of my life.

It is now time for me to move on to my next journey.

My paternal grandfather, born in 1913, who spent his whole life in a very small country village in France, looking after his land with my grandmother, from which they lived and fed themselves, and us (… lucky 🧡) over weekends and family holidays, growing the most nourishing and delicious fruits and vegetables, as well as farm animals in the most traditional and natural ways (chicken, rabbits, pigs and pigeons)

Used to make the most beautiful baskets with wicker…
•••
He would weave them for the whole family…
•••
Without any knots or strings… just weaving the flexible twigs into beautiful and perfect looking baskets 🤎

This one came with me when we moved to Australia…
•••
And is about 30 years old 🧡
•••
My parents always had some hanging in the kitchen full of onions and garlic
•••
People like my grandparents lived sustainable lives, respected everything they had…
Lived everyday with an internal clock in tune with nature…
Made most of everything themselves and never ever wasted a thing
•••
I always thought the time this generation will go, a whole way of living, a deep traditional knowledge, will disappear with them… and that would be tragic for us
•••
Both my grandparents went in the last 20 years… They were both over 90 years old…
They did so much over their lives, spoke so little… and worked with their hands, their land… they gave a lot, they nourished always, and took pretty much nothing… 🧡
•••
I never hung my basket but I’m hanging on to it… and to everything my grandparents taught us and I observed them doing…
•••
And this morning I realised…
I am making natural bags with my hands…
Like my grandfather.

And I share a tear (a few actually) while contemplating this……….

The divine to the touch fabric composing the major part of every Malo Bag, Mini-Wi and Woolchill’d in the Biodegradable collection, is an OEKO-TEX certified TENCEL™ Lyocell, which are fibres made from wood 🪵
