Hi to all my old customers, friends and family. It’s been almost two years since I had my stroke, what a long and winding road it’s been. I was told that I would never walk again and have any control over the left side of my body. So I bought myself a drum kit and took my frustrations out with a pair of boxing gloves (beats the hell out of squeezing a stress ball). I spent the first three months learning to walk again. Which has been the biggest challenge. My greatest frustration, is the nerve pain I still get up the left side of my body and having little control over my left hand. On a bad day, I can’t turn on my electric toothbrush. On a good day, I can walk the track to little Wategos, go to a Pilates class and finish the day at a yin yoga class. I’ve always tried to be a positive and carefree person, so when all my hair fell out, I was excited thinking I’d never have to blow dry or straighten my hair again. 2 years down the track, I haven’t even worn make up, apart from the occasional red lips.
I have a wonderful group of carers that are my good karma. I am so grateful for the NDIS scheme to cover the expenses (I will never complain about the taxes I’ve paid again). My dear brother Steve has being a champion. He has taken me to the beautiful Fraser Island and for my birthday surprised me with a new mobility scooter. Recently I’ve had the best news in the world, I’m having a grandson. My daughter Priscilla is 12 weeks pregnant. She has been a rock for me along with her partner Kane. They have encouraged me throughout this journey and I wouldn’t be as strong mentally and physically without their support.
I hope you enjoy some of my moments on my journey to recovery. Dancing, drumming, street fighting and showing off are all part of my personal recovery plan. It’s the little things and the people that matter the most. I’m looking forward to being a grandmother and conquering all the challenges that the next chapter brings. I also have a new business idea, I’m not finished with the fashion industry yet. Watch this space…
