2024 Throwback, A wedding Dress that took 3 people to carry it!

It was gi-normous, so big, I had to move it into my lounge room to do the fittings.

It was a fabulous dress thou! I told the bride, she really needs to be running down a field of a castle like in a perfume commercial.

A lot of Brides think you need to spend $100’s of dollars dry cleaning your wedding dress, before or after the wedding.

Yes and no…
Eve if you dry clean your dress, after a year of storing your dress, stains will start to appear from where you got alcohol on your dress or swiped pasted someone with sticky hands at the wedding.

A wedding dress is just a dress… just an expensive one, and you can use ole fashioned laundry techniques to clean your dress. It takes time and effort, which is what you pay the dry cleaner for.

But …. Here is how you can spot clean your dress.

1. Get a clean white cloth to use as your “scribing’ tool and a white cloth to hold underneath. You don’t want to use anything coloured incase it is not dye set and you could end up transferring the colour onto your dress.

2. Get some plain ordinary soap. No colours, no dyes, no fragrances and definitely no oils in the soap. AND no bleaches. Eve though your dress is white!!! There are 1000’s of whites!! That can change colour with bleach.

3. Wet the cotton rag a bit and Rub your finger with the rag on the soap.

4. Put the other cloth under the area you want to clean as a pad to absorb the moisture of the soapy wet rag.

5. Rub the area with the stain until the stain starts to fade. Add more water is make the area more sudsy and wet if needed.

6. Once it looks like the stain is gone, wet the scrubbing cloth totally, make sure all the soap is off the rag and dab or wipe your dress to make sure all of the soap is gone.

7. The water will spread and it may look terrifying but it is only water and water drys.

8. If the stain still appears after this process and after drying, continue the process.

9. Once completed, hand your dress up in the sunshine somewhere to dry. Either on a curtain rod or on the back of a door.

And that’s it. Job done…

The Sassi Seamstress is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced, skilled, reliable seamstress/sewer to join our fun, fast-paced studio in Caloundra.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys working with beautiful garments.

About the Role:
You’ll be working on:
✨ Bridal gown alterations, formal wear alterations, Tailoring of suits, general clothing alterations
✨ General clothing alterations, hemming, resizing, restyling & garment repairs
✨ Working with delicate fabrics including lace, beading, silk & structured garments

We’re Looking for Someone Who:
✔ Has solid sewing and alterations experience OR someone who is naturally gifted at sewing

✔ Can work independently with minimal supervision

✔ Has high attention to detail and quality finishing

✔ Is confident with industrial sewing machines & overlockers

✔ Has bridal/formalwear experience (preferred but not essential)

✔ Is reliable, positive, and works well in a small team

✔ Loves fashion and beautiful craftsmanship

Part-time / Casual to start Approx 1–2 days per week initially, with opportunity for more as we grow.
